"Rush" well worth a watch, even if like me, you find motor racing boring. The bloke was extraordinary, what a career(s)!
Apparently tho, despite the way the film projects them as enemies, they were in fact quite the opposite and very good mates. On the morning of the 1976 Japanese Grand Prix, the defining final race of the season, he was in the hotel room next to Hunt and walked in the room, whilst Hunt was still in bed with some girl, and goosestepped around the room saying "Today, I vill vin the World Title"!
Also responsible for one of my favourite childhood jokes:
Me: "You know those two famous racing drivers, James Hunt and Niki, Niki.........."
Friend: "Lauda?"
Me: "YOU KNOW THOSE TWO FAMOUS RACING DRIVERS, JAMES HUNT AND NIKI, NIKI......."
And so on.....

He was responsible for changing the role of the driver in F1 through the provision of engineering feedback. Initially seen as unwanted interference by the engineers, it is now universally acknowledged as a key component within the team dynamic.
