Why do the UK bother with the Eurovision?

Haven't watched it since the 1960s. Good to know I haven't missed anything worthwhile.

Every year my mrs asks me to put a tenner on the uk,I know they got no chance but just know that the one year I don’t it’ll probably cost me 10k.
