I don't answer my home phone, but just let it ring and then 1471, and if it's not someone I know I search for the source.

Yesterday I had one that I think was from Germany, but then had two more with fifteen digits!

Just had two more today with fifteen digits!

What the hell is that about?

had 2 today myself, reverse lookup tells me it was India, using a local UK number somehow,  I always know it's them anyway as they let it make 3 rings then it hangs up.

All the ones I have had ring for ages, so much so that I take out my hearing aid, as then I can barely hear it!

Typing the fifteen digits into Google, I get "doesn't match any documents"!

My strategy is somewhat different. After I have told them to stop phoning me, if they phone again and if they are selling something and want to make an appointment then I make an appointment. I confirm it when they ring the day before or on the morning of the appointment. When the rep turns up I ask them to take me off their phone list, explaining that I've tried to do it on the phone and that hasn't worked, so I thought I'd try face to face. Some of them get the right hump and tell me how much time they've wasted coming to my house, to which my reply is If they phone again see you next week.

When the Indian sounding ones (usually 'microsoft' scammers) ask 'is that Mr *****' I say sorry, he's in bed with your Mother/Sister. It sends em nuts, I've had one ring back 3 times to call me a c**t.

I understand that the bigger problem is that, once you answer, you will be besieged with other callers!

Incidentally, the calls with fifteen digits were different numbers each time!

Think I'll just get a new phone, as could do with answer phone, and hands free speaker....

Meantime, to use 1572 does that mean have to answer the call first, and then hit 1572?

In other words, can't do 1471, to see if it's dodgy first, and then 1572....(which would require the last callers number to be recognised)!

I'm still concerned about these 15 digit numbers, and wondering if this is new ploy, to prevent them from being blocked!

Would you hide from a burglar? These scammers deserve to be told to fro and I don't mind doing so.

I have never got around to doing this, but plan to get a whistle & put it next to the phone. Then give them the full blast! Another one I have used, is to say can you hold on a minute. Then put the receiver down next to the phone & return to it later. You can imagine how they might feel once it dawned on them that you were not coming back.

I had a mate who never answered any calls then 1471ed and called back if he felt like it, it's pretty annoying.

Get yourself a phone with caller ID display and enable it (free) at BT (presuming it's BT) then you can see when they call who it is.

If it's a barst(rd call on my phone it often says INTERNATIONAL and I never answer them. But with VOIP an indian call centre might have a UK number anyway, but that's rarer.

There are plenty of "who just called me" websites that often have the number lsited and say which particular b*stard it was, type the number into them or just google it.

You see this is allowed, in 2019 it's saying you don't think someone should be raped that gets you into trouble Wink

Example website to check the numbers:
https://who-called.co.uk/Number/01023658369
"IT scammer, claimed my PC was infected but had no idea what operating system I had, who my internet service provider was and refused to tell me where she got my number from."
You can see what you would have won :)
