Any tv experts? going large Curved..

I like them but they are just a fad.

Thats what I suspected, Looking at 60-65... Pretty much under/up to a grand would be preferred. any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Curved TV seems to be a classic solution looking for a problem, to differentiate give a marketing hype.
"Lets make a tv that only looks best when sat right bang centre so other people off centre have a worse image, and if you've light sources in the room there is no angle where they won't have a reflection somewhere on it"

Don't know what the price of OLEDs are now, but the step up is thoroughly worth the money

With a decent broadband connection 4k Sky is great, 4K Netflix is even better and a 4k DVD player is mindblowing.

Richer Sounds were doing an offer on 55" OLEDs for £989 a week or two ago, but that deals probably over.

Curved does make sense for big computer monitors, so there is a large crossover there, but of course computer monitors are viewed by one person from a more-or-less fixed position, whereas family tellies are not (see Just Checking's earlier post).

So the question for OP might be whether he watches telly alone.

Probably be OK if everyone snuggles up together.

I certainly wouldn't want one. FGS we spend years with curved CRT tvs, we get rid of them for flat screen TVS. (in fact when CRTs around you could pay a premium for FST tvs from Sony etc). THen everyone makes flat TVS so they decide .. "how can be different, curved is TVs!" and reverse the curve from convex to concave. From what I've read the fad is already dying out?

If they ARE really reflective and of an appropriate parabola that could be interesting ... if they break, take them outside and turn them into a solar furnace!

What I really want is good low priced VR. I've been sometimes thinking of treating myself but the technology is probably movng fast and they are pretty expensive but ..it'll be intersting to see what happens in 10-20 years.

It'll be handy for burglars though, they'll be able to walk through the living room with the gold candlesticks and grannies old jewelery box while the entire family will be sat with goggles on watching "Ant and Dec and Jeremy Kyle's Dumbed Down Saturday VR Sh1tfest on VRTV 3".
