Freddie Starr- rip

At least he had his heyday at the right time. Doubt he would even exist in the game today.

Great comic and singer. RIP

That is very sad news to read, r.i.p. Freddie Starr

I say to the Mrs, Guess who's dead?    Des O'Connor!..

Anyways hope he RIP..

rip Freddie

Yes I remember minnehoma, opened 33/1 for National...

He did not let me know..oh well

Wiki page on him says he always believed in ghosts. His turn to give people who p1ssed him off a fright :)

Derek Acorah needs a new spirit guide.

Total aside but talking of ghosts, I like a good "ghost" film but most these days are a bit crap. I caught the OUIJA prequel the other night, genuinely spooked me for some reason. Not sure I'd ever do that, especially tonight. When the board read back "You're STILL asking me about that ****ing hamster, when I've a red hot poker up my arse!" I wouldn't be able to sleep .

Sad news to hear. A very funny man. The ghosts connection immediately reminded me of the classic Parkinson episode when Freddie told Muhammad Ali a scary story. Brilliant tv it was. For anybody that hasn`t seen it, here is the clip:

RIP Freddie Starr.

I had forgotten that Mac  I am going to watch it

I miss my guinea pug daisy, lived for 5 07 years, arw carrits and lettuces it was lonely , rip fred

Freddie starr about as funny as diarrohea,in saying that there was fcuk all to laugh at in them days everythg was sh1t so in gand scheme of thngs...

Thought I ought to drop this in here .
I think it went to the wrong address

I used to larf in them days. Or was it wind?

RIP Fred

Yes reynard, he's getting his trolling well wrong tonight....

He seems to have exited. Stage left.

Saw a documentary on him in late 90s.

His former agent explained he was washed up as far as TV went because he wouldn't change his act, which consisted mostly of impressions of people who had not been on TV since 1976.

Amazing to think of the kind of ratings and success comedians who no one seems to remember fondly got back in the 1970s and first half of 80s.

Cannon & Ball, Little & Large were peak time, 17 million viewers.

I can still do a great impression of John Cole, but unfortunately time has moved on and Nick Robinson is now the chief BBC political correspondant.

Cannon & Ball even made a movie

Never really my sort of comedy but I recognised his talent . Filed under 'Flawed genius' . RIP

Rock on Toby!

Cannonball Run?

Watched Bobby in an episode of Heartbeat.
Was not bad at the acting game.

C + B actually made a feature film called "The Boys In Blue" - I thought you would have known that Aka

It was a remake of the classic Will Hay comedy "Ask A Policeman" and despite C + B in it, it was crap.

still top notch on Not Going Out - Bobby that is

I knew that Mac, was mentioned earlier.
Was total cwap as you say. Nice title though.

So have any of these made anything remotely comparable to The Office?

did you get round to watching afterlife mouse - the office was brilliant but latter blew it out of the water wiv a 2nd season to come

I did, v good, stretching it to say it blew the office out its water.

It had some elements of the office in it.

You could see where it was going of course. I did nearly cry when he was reconciling himself wiv his dad like.

I spose its down to  where we are in our lives mate - hit many poignant notes wiv me for obv reasons - just his wifes videos from her hospital  bed were spooky for a start  loved extras as well by him - brilliant writer but didnt get him in stand up sadly

if ya wanna cry mate go check out that dementia choir thing wiv Vicky McLure - tough not to get emotional about that - and even more shocking to think about 1 in 70 already have it wiv numbers increasing

They were even worse, like i said unfunny days of total dross..

Ya I get that. The Office will always be the classic what he's judged by, even the mrs appreciates that and she hates the slfc. I had to pretty much kick her down the road to the cinema when the Brent movie come out, but she did admit to quite liking it after. She declined to watch Afterlife with me though.

Film was bang average imo - get her to watch afterlife again wiv you -she will luv it

fook it she can watch her own choice of bollox

hairy muff

All comedians have a shelf life.....because there is only so many times they can tell the same joke and get away with it...

Even the great Tony Hancock found that...back in the day now of course

'League of Gentleman' I found that very original and funny...but even they found the same problem in the end

Pauline and her Pens
what does egregious mean
the local shop
etc

Is the forum's greatest comedian bigmart finnish now iyo?

nar he will be back -but he isnt even the greatest aftertimer to hav graced this thread tonight

UBL - Get yasel on bbc i player and- check out league of gentlemens live show broadcast - still v funny and Paulines in it

2. When will Mart surface iyo? He logged out about 10 mins after ft Ajax and aint said a word since. At half time his self promotion messiah team was in full swing. Even Massias have some shame it would now appear.

the greatest aftertimer has nee shame

theblunderbus will come back wiv nee shame

i will fill you in tomorra .......but i must away

He was extremely funny and rude in the days of non-PC; his latter years had not been good though, sadly. He owns Miinnehoma the 1994 Grand National winner which I backed. RIP Freddie!

R.I.P. Freddie. Thanks for the laughs.

r.i.p you were different class to the s hit we got now

He had an 18 month investigation for sexual offences that resulted in no charges being brought. I think that did him in both financially and mentally. RIP

UBL - Get yasel on bbc i player and- check out league of gentlemens live show broadcast - still v funny and Paulines in it

ta very much smirnoff2therescue … I will give it a go

People saying cannon and ball had 17 million viewers ...there  was only 3 channels at the time

The same story for little and large and they was as funny as a burning orphanage

Talk about edgy!

I hate edgy!

Not just a talented entertainer but he just had something special. Made me feel uncomfortable watching him so many times. Absolute nightmare as a guest on chat shows. A proper one off!

A very funny man and also had a marvellous singing voice.

Riotous scenes in Heaven tonight!

RIP Freddie and thanks for all the fun.

My Mrs was a sister in the Nursing home where Freddie Starr plonked his stepdad after his mum died.
He left him there, went back to his house, had the old boy's dog put down. NEVER visited him again. He didn't pay anything, give him anything or give another minute to him.

Apparently the stepdad (Jack) was a really lovely bloke.
Freddie Starr certainly wasn't.

I seem to remember a 'wife swap' programme he was on a few years ago too. He came across as a bit unpleasant in that as well!

Notwithstanding the fact that none of his family spoke to him for years and any other unsettled stuff, I'm not sure blindly joining in the outpouring of grief is always necessary.

I doubt he'll be sadly missed by anyone much.

Good point studyform!

Does not sound like a very pleasant  individual

studyform........think he was living on his own in spain.

Well said Studyform , just confirms what I thought of one of the unfunnyist so called comedians ive ever seen. Like someone said earlier about as funny as a burning orphanage .

Tiger Run ????

I think Afterlife is the best thing he has ever done. Brilliantly acted, directed and filmedd, by all concerned.
The script was incredible.
I laughed and cried throughout the whole Series.
Genius

oh he was funny!

Painfully funny! His private life was something else.

Like a lot of Northern 'comedians' they usually stole a lot of routines/gags from the local comedy circuit, made it to the big stage and passed them off as their own, Peter Kay has been accused of it plenty of times, most of them are not funny, they just sound slightly amusing because of the strange dialects they have and the funny faces they pull, I mean Vic and Bob? Jon Richardson? Ross Noble? Paddy Mcguiness? Jason Manford?

More style over substance

Thank you facts. Tiger Roll of course.

Went on a stag do to Hulme in Manchester to see Freddy star when i had never heard of him many moons ago .he swung through some of the audience dressed as Tarzan loved it

Did anyone get his tackle in their face?

When the Cup final was a day long event Freddie Starr was brilliant.

I don't know I was too busy trying to find my last 10 shilling note that I'd dropped under the table

stick to watching Citizen Khan and reading the book MO..

I have to say can you imagine a comedian / enne wearing SS insignia and wellie boots these days? I think not! but still hilariously funny at the time and now!

One thing has been cleared up..he did not really eat that hamster

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7017123/What-REALLY-happened-Freddie-Starr-Ate-Hamster.html

Which I am pleased to hear, as an animal lover.

I have to say can you imagine a comedian / enne wearing SS insignia and wellie boots these days? I think not! but still hilariously funny at the time and now!

Those Wellies would not pass muster in these PC days whisperingdeath

a pity because we do to lighten up sometimes

In 20 years time people will be watching Michael Macintyre and James Corden on Youtube (well ... the 10% of the population who haven't been banged up for "offending" someone or had their internet "license" revoked) and ask "how did these people become millionaires? Is that what people watched back then?".

I can guarantee I'll be watching neither of those in 20 years, 20 weeks or 20 days.

You'll be watching "JC and the Nish", where a 90 year old comatose ex leader of the House of the United Soviets acts as a straight man for rantings against the Enemies of the Proletariat.

Funnily enough, Nish does have something along similar lines in the pipeline. Never misunderestimate his extraordinary capacity to reinvent himself.

One day, he might re-invent himself as funny?

Anything's possible, although another unfunny construction would appeal more to his keen sense of irony.

If Network Rail's transpenine upgrade project hasn't got him in stiches I don't know what will.

I'm not sure his Islington set take much interest in northern infrastructure, and hey what do I care either, as long as I get my 10% off him.

I notice the Mash Report reruns have been drastically cut down to I presume just the "funny bits". By that I'd expect it's the bits that are just mildly tedious and I have less Nish preaching in them, so pretty much no Nish? Still amazingly they found enough such that they are more than 3 minutes long, I presume a lot of that is credits.

You will have been indoctrinated by him sublimanally just as much in the new timeframe, you just don't know it yet.

*subliminally

WB Casey

every forum needs it's basketcase

Shaven you Old scoundrel

Hi case good to see you back buddy.

Thx acey

Yep meant to post similar Case.
Welcome back. You take a break or was it a chat ban?

Ban  Aka

Welcome back mate.

Thx Slippy

The unproven case against Starr probably finished him off.
