Thinking of taking a trip to Dublin and really don't like flying so thinking of taking the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin.

Do I need to book in advance or is it ok just to turn up on the day? Just me & the missus in a medium sized car, ford focus so I reckon should cost £200 return.
Anything I need to know about making the trip this way? cheers.

go by train and hire a car when in Ireland

You can get quite cheap advance tickets to Dublin

I hope you don't have my experience , on Wed heading to Chester races for the day, boat unable to dock due to thuster failure , we spent 1.1/2 hours out at sea waiting to dock, shambles. Only arrived in Chester for last couple of races...
