Pretty much everyone towards the back half of this plane died. Surprisingly there were no wing exits like say a 737 has, just front and rear, and the rear was on fire so front was only option.
What gets me is the amount of people seen walking away from the plane with their BIG luggage. There is one fat selfish guy making the news but photos of the aftermath show a number of them. I mean not like "they held onto the the little bag they had in the seat with them", which I can understand as you already have it and they aren't heavy or bulky. I mean people took time to stop and get their big awkward wheeled proper luggage from overhead luggage when the ****ing plane is a fireball.
Putin should show he's a real strong man and put these people in stocks for a few months.

Yes, although probably an instinct thing to some, found it selfish beyond belief. They will not be feeling great with themselves. Tragic.

Apparently back in the Kings Cross tube fire in 1987, passengers who'd escaped from the fire stopped in the station phone boxes to call home.
So yes, people do stupid things -- including Russian airline passengers who must have been able to see their plane had just crashed and was on fire. Maybe the Russian government should require announcements that passengers should leave their luggage; maybe run some public information films on telly. God knows there are enough accidents in that country to make elementary precautions worthwhile. |

I was reading up on this earlier today, it seems this sort of thing an accident waiting to happen and other recent incidents have had people doing the same.
With the push by budget airlines to make people carry as much as possible on or charge them for it (the "Ryanair" model!) the incentive for people to have their main luggage there and the urge to grab it (as it IS there) will surely be worse than it was say 20 years ago? There is talk by some of having a lock on the luggage racks that don't open until instructed but the fear then is that these sorts of people will waste time (possibly more time) struggling to force them open so it might not solve anything. |

Up until recently Ryanair put hand luggage in the hold unless you paid for it to be taken on the plane. Think they have reverted to letting hand luggage on for free.
