Are you going anywhere nice?

Out to my backyard -where colourful clumps of weeds wave gently in the breeze  and the flagstones are beautifully dappled  with avian faecal deposits from on high. It's a veritable oasis of peace and familiar home-grown disorder. Probably my favourite spot in the entire universe.

Actually I was being  serious . I've come to think that much ( not all )foreign travel is grossly over-rated. It's something that young folk need to do for a while -say up to about their mid-thirties. But then much of it is repetitive and people come to realise that ,deep down, people are the same everywhere and grapple with more or less the same issues. Globalisation has increased uniformity of experience - and I'm fine with that.
I think many 'touristy types' end up rather hapless - wandering aimlessly around trying to keep boredom at bay. Frequently they don't get a flavour of a country at all but exist in a comfort bubble of activities that mirror their home life. I mean -what IS the point ?
Plus,modern  travel has  become quite a chore with delays,terror threats,scams,strikes etc. I'm happy to leave it to others.
