Now we have Cambridge University spending 2 years investigating whether they 'benefited from the slave trade'.  Laugh  How about all the blacks that have benefited, getting to live in a first world country, or would they prefer to go home to the voodoo villages of their ancestors?

One of the funniest programmes on television. Everybody watched it at the time and never thought twice about it.
Kenny Lynch was a regular and many other non-whites joined in on the fun.
Alf was the bigot who always came off worst due his prejudice.
Society was far more open and honest in those days

Alf was the bigot who always came off worst due his prejudice.

I was discussing this with a friend a few months ago and this is exactly what we concluded . 'Til Death Us Do Part' contrary to the belief of the PC Snowflake generation , did not have the effect of encouraging viewers into having racially prejudiced views . In fact it had the opposite effect because we were not laughing with Alf Garnett , we were laughing at him . The whole programme highlighted the futility of harbouring such bigoted opinions and how ridiculous people who hold such views look to others . 'Love Thy Neighbour' and 'It ain't Half Hot Mum' also showed similar bigoted behaviours and attitudes but neither compared to the brilliant work of Johnny Speight .

very true Dr C

far too subtle for todays BBC

Brilliant. Have them all on dvd.

Nicholas Lyndhurst on the news today doubts that even Only Fools & Horses would be made today.

I fear we will never see a new truly funny sitcom ever again.

Mind Your Language was very funny at the time it was made. Never seen it since.

Ain`t Have Hot Mum another very funny comedy that never gets repeated.

To their eternal shame the Beeb didn't even show a clip of IAHHM in their tribute to Windsor Davies, but
showed ITVs  feeble Never the Twain.
Report themightymac April 30, 2019 11:40 PM BST
Yes, that was bad Keith. At least we have the dvds.

I liked 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum', especially Windsor Davies as Battery Sergeant Major Williams Laugh
Report EvgenyKissin May 1, 2019 10:28 PM BST
Keith Moon in his post above was right - that was ridiculous not to show a clip of IAAHM in the Windsor Davies' tribute.

Alf was the bigot who always came off worst due his prejudice.

He got into discussions, contradicted himself, got mad, and then shouted "I'm going down the pub". Happy

doesn't show saville or gary glitter on repeat totp on bbc4 either. its like having a ww2 documentary  and blotting out hitler. you can't change the past.

Rising damp still gets an airing on itv,but I bet the bbc wouldn’t have the gonads to show it,even though the black guy always gets the better of rigsby.
Report hectoratoratora May 3, 2019 4:25 PM BST
Imo Johnny Speight had the last laugh, the " Alf is a bigot" defence meant he was able to write anything he wanted and get away with it.Not that i am objecting.
