I'm reminded again of how meaningless the charts are nowadays.
"Summer 69" only hit 42 in the uk charts. "It's only love" tina turner hit 29. Yet pretty much everyone knows them. Stuff in the charts now, number 1,2,3,4,5 .. who gives a **** and few know now what they are never mind in 30 years! |

In 1977 Bowie's 'Heroes' peaked at #24 in the UK charts, meaning that week, there were 23 'better' songs being bought in the UK There hasn't been 23 better songs in the entire history of pop music. The charts are lame and always will be. |

it was more or less what was selling out of a selected few retailers
if bowie fans went to local record shops and otters went to woollies then whatever the otters were being fed on radio 1 was higher in the charts. bryan adams summer of 69 was somewhat restricred on beeb playlists given the meaning of the song. j |

But I think his time has been and gone, and this just sounds weary. Then again, maybe the ponderous heavy riff will be absorbed on the radio, and the monotonous feel may just be hypnotic enough to drag people into buying it. I hope not."[23] Despite the poor review it featured at number 6 in the NME's end of year critics poll for 1977.[24] |

If you look at the first chart (which is during DISCO FEVAHHHHH!!!!!) I'd say :
3 Baccara Yes Sir I Can Boogie 7 Elvis Presley Way Down 8 Stranglers No More Heroes 11 Ram Jam Black Betty 14 Status Quo Rockin' All Over The World 20 Carpenters Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft 21 Jean Michel Jarre Oxygene Part IV are probably all songs people not born then would know reasoanblly well now? BTW I had to google this and this is just a 70s gem :) 9 Meco Star Wars Theme ????????? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOp04pxm7ro It's the Star Wars music in a bold loud big band style with a disco beat and a load of dancers dancing to it. There's not much more 70s than that! |
