They haven't taken enough of the poor so here comes another one

When will it end?

And before some smart **** comes on and says something along the lines of "lefty" just think

Why should the retired get robbed? they've worked all their life and have earned the pittance they get, it wont be long until they start coming out with 'we should just mercy kill the over 65s' ffs

Most pensioners have got more disposable income than those that are working - especially since the Tories introduced us to this new demographic - the working poor.

Shirley you just need to means test these benefits - those than need them, can keep them. Those that are so wealthy that they don't need to be subsidised (by people that are poorer than them), would lose their benefits. QED.
Report akabula April 26, 2019 8:13 PM BST
I still pay tax so how am I being subsidised by the poor?
Report Crisp77 April 26, 2019 8:34 PM BST
Loads of youngsters paying a fortune in income tax and council tax to pay the pensions of millions of folk who didn't do the same for their elder generation. A real stitch up.
Report akabula April 26, 2019 8:45 PM BST
Yet they want to punish the pensioners who did.
Report Ibrahima Sonko April 26, 2019 8:58 PM BST
So retirees who have planned all their life to have enough money in retirement are going to be punished for having more disposable income than others ?
Report cooperman April 26, 2019 9:04 PM BST
Any pensioner who has managed to have a comfortable retirement probably didn't run up massive debts on their credit cards or expect to live a millionaire lifestyle and pay for it later.
Report GAZO April 26, 2019 9:12 PM BST
what benefits do pensioners get that are not means tested
Report Ibrahima Sonko April 26, 2019 9:13 PM BST
Heating allowance, bus pass & tv license. Doesnt really add up to much but it does to the youngsters.
Report GAZO April 26, 2019 9:26 PM BST
wouldnt have thought wealthy pensioners would even claim for some of those things especially the bus pass
Report akabula April 26, 2019 9:34 PM BST
The heating allowance is paid automatically and the free tv licence only applies to over 75s.
Report themightymac April 26, 2019 10:42 PM BST
Pensioners to be penalised for working hard, paying their taxes and saving up for their latter years. Disgraceful.

This is yet another tax grab. With each tax grab you are more the slave. When slaves arn't useful anymore, just let them die. That's the message I see from this.
Report Get me a drink April 27, 2019 6:13 AM BST
The other thing you'll notice to justify the badness is they'll pit one group against another. In this case young v old, when in a 4d reality we're all young and old (unless we die). We're all on the same time journey.
Report Injera April 27, 2019 12:03 PM BST
My old man like many benefitted hugely from the housing boom in the 70s and 80s. Then there's the final salary pensions of that generation...

He gets free tv, prescriptions, winter fuel allowance, bus pass, £10 Christmas gift plus oap rates in various outlets.

None of it is means tested and I often remind him! He once tried to pay for his prescriptions on the basis he could easily afford to. That was denied. He like most is aware the olduns are more likely to vote so many of these benefits are to buy their support.

It's daft really. From before birth to 18, the state looks after you. Many then get in work benefits. Even if you they don't people can be retired for 30+ years in receipt of all kinds of state help.

Hospital visits/doctors' appointments surge for the over 65s and then there's state run care and nursing homes.

The idea that people have 'paid in all their life' is nonsense really. Few of us who get to live a long life are net contributors. In fact, VERY, VERY few. It's quite a dilemma..

I know olduns who leave their car at home and take a free bus!
Report themightymac April 27, 2019 1:25 PM BST
I do that but only because I know that I`m going to have a good bevvy.

"I know olduns who leave their car at home and take a free bus!"
That's very Green, the young should approve of that. Helps stop the world ending in 2030 and 16 year old world famous climate scientists will heartily approve.
Report mouse muldoon April 27, 2019 3:21 PM BST
I get on the bus and instruct the valet to drive the car behind.
Report RacingCert April 27, 2019 3:28 PM BST
Where exactly is the tax grab?

I’m all for looking after those who can’t look after themselves.

We have to face it though since the state pension came in the gap between retirement age and life expectancy has grown massively.
The system needs a rethink.
Report Gin April 27, 2019 3:45 PM BST
They're punishing the oldies for voting in Brexit (Nap)......
Report cooperman April 28, 2019 12:53 PM BST
There's a very high percentage of over 65's that vote so i'd think any drastic moves by government could be electorally disastrous.Wink
Report Dr Crippen April 28, 2019 1:20 PM BST
I could never understand the logic behind people calling for poorer state pensions.
They're in effect wishing themselves poor for their old age.

For the ones already getting the benefits won't be affected, their pensions are locked in and they'll be dead by the time any effects really start to bite.

There are none so daft as folk, especially where money is concerned.
