what would it be?

On my Jimmy White thread I said that I'd like for him to have won a world title. It got me thinking about other events happening differently. Breaking it down to individual and team sports it would be for White to have won the world title and for England to have won the penalty shoot out with Germany in 1990 - that final was there for the taking. What choices would you make?

When Wales beat England at Wembley in 1999, the fattest centre in the history of rugby union, Scott Gibbs, scored a last gasp try and Neil Jenkins nailed the conversion in the last few seconds of extra time. England 31 Wales 32. I won't say how much but in 40 odd years of punting it was my biggest loss by some distance.

626, I remember that Open so well, absolutely heartbreaking that Tom Watson didn't win that year.

Mine would have been a NH flat race at Chepstow in Oct 2017. The Russian Doyen came 2nd at about 12-1, if it had won I would have copped £150k, I had to settle for £11kCryCry

Over a stone is technically right but Crisp was actually conceding Red Rum 23lbs to be precise.

Devon Loch avoiding doing the splits on the run in and winning the Grand National.

Doug Saunders holing that easy putt on the 18th at St Andrews to win the 1970 Open.

would have loved to see jimmy white win a world championship, tom watson
to win open at 59, crisp win grand national, ref to see maradona hand ball,
mike ashley to have sold newcastle to the bloke that bought citeh instead

Crisp. Every time I watch the replay, I'm still willing him to hold on, just this one time.

Re Italia '90, I had £100 at 8/1 Germany to win the tournament, so personally I wouldn't change the outcome of the semi-final shootout. Particularly as I was still recovering from the consequences of the 1985 Grand National at that point...

If Dunwoody had allowed West Tip to jump second Becher's in the middle of the fence, rather than pointlessly sticking to the inner with its severe drop, my life would have turned out very differently. The horse was cruising in the lead and there was no need to take the risk. It won the race the next year, carrying something like a stone more, just to prove the point. But for the 1985 race I'd backed the horse to win £30,000 at 33/1 downwards, and made all sorts of financial and personal commitments on the back of what I'd come to see as its inevitable victory.

Messy ...

Tough one this.

Split between

Coe to win the Moscow 800m Final
Federer to have beaten Nadal in the 2008 Wimbledon Final
Bula to have won the 1975 Cheltenham Gold Cup

Hey Slippy, I was at Wembley for that 1999 epic Wales win. England even had time to try and kick a drop goal winner a few minutes later.

Hantuchova losing the 2008 Australian Open semi final from 6-0, 2-0 up.
Too important a player to have ended her career without making a slam singles final.

Would have been good if Murray could have won his French final also.

Just watched Crisp and Red Rum again.  Sent tingles down my spine.

I'd have been 12 when I saw it live.  My pocket money was on Crisp.  Should have paid attention to that early lesson about gambling!

Personally I'd keep Italy vs Brazil 1982 the same. I happened to be having a haircut in Marino's barber shop in Slough at the time the match took place. Words couldn't describe the atmosphere that afternoon.
