It is a ridiculous state of affairs when the legal performance of an air rifle must be under 12ft lbs

Ready available crossbows can be bought legally by anyone over 18 years and are capable of 10 times (and more) of this!

Weight (grains)    410

Velocity (fps)    360

Energy = 118.02 foot-pounds

Additionally. they can be be fitted with "Broadhead" tips. which are razor sharp and "V" shaped!

I imagine that is what the police were stating. when they talked of injuries being consistent with a crossbow!

Was some program on the other day about some murdering scumbag who killed with Crossbows (and eat them!), wonder if it's a bit copycat.

"We have completed house to house enquiries at four campsites and visited numerous homes and we will continue to do so," he said.

Gerald Corrigan, 74, was left with "horrendous injuries" outside his home in a remote area near South Stack Road in Holyhead.

The crossbow bolt narrowly missed Mr Corrigan's heart and he is "stable but heavily sedated" in hospital.

Doctors at Royal Stoke University Hospital found the bolt had travelled through his upper body and right arm.

Was having a wee look at the terrain around his property on google earth ,was struggling with the idea he was on his roof as reported by some MSM outlets .Then I noticed a picture of a sky dish on another MSM site at near ground level next to a seat at his front/back foot door .Was thinking about horizons and elevation of his property .But google reveals he has what looks like a big multi satalite motorised dish in garden about maybe 30-40 yards from property .Looks like fairly high cover on rough wild ground ,prob some thick coastal shrub /bushes like buckthorn .Hopefully he can give an account of events ,of course he may not recall or know .

Thank you breadnbutter----what was a baffling case is now much clearer. Think the shooter made a mistake not killing the victim.

Terrain is rough to one side and there is a boundary fence looking onto more open land facing uphill on another ,a gate leads to open rocky rough grazing land from garden facing downhill towards sea from back garden ,his dish is to the side of house with cover behind it ,the idea someone could have been hunting must be a posssbiity ,could he have been remonstrating with someone at close quarters with his right hand up ,maybe trying to take a bow off them ? Looks a wirey wee chap imo . Could even have been rustlers .Looks like the area has lots of wild caravan pitches and no doubt all sorts kicking around .

I think it was a planned attack and he meant to kill.

Interfere with the satellite dish to get him outdoors.

You'd expect the victim will be able to say who disliked him enough to want to kill him.

I do agree it seems  bit of an anomally that crossbows are so legal. But if you ban them then you ban bows? If you ban bows then how can men do their mandatory archery practice on their village green on a sunday to avoid the wrath of King Henry?

no implement has been recovered so all talk of delivery of arrow/bolt/projectile is premature ,he called his own ambulance so one would think if he met someone he might of said ,reported that police were called by the hospital . Although unclear if a projectile or part of has been recovered ,although appears it may have .

As has been the case, on previous investigations, the CCDA have proven their superior intellect, even when deprived of all the facts!

As for my own position I will, with much sadness, resign from my involvement in this particular investigation!
