Have you checked to see if your catalytic converter is still in situ ?

Oh Christ...I never thought of that!
It is sounding a bit "throaty"! |

Sorry to hear about your easter bonnet problems

It's worth having it checked to see if the frame surrounding the screen (i'm assuming the screen is bonded) is out of kilter, putting undue stress on parts of the screen. It happened with a vehicle I owned but in my case the screen shattered whilst driving, twice, before the fault was diagnosed.

Not that cooperman, as there wouldn't be the impact damage!
It's clearly a vindictive act, either through jealousy, or animosity! It will be an expensive replacement, as it is also heated, but having checked my cover, I am liable for just £60.00... |

It's a pity they didn't leave a message on your windscreen containing 'hurty-words' .
OB would have left no stone unturned in their search for the culprits , court orders to obtain CCTV from neighbours cameras , DNA etc etc ![]() |

There is zero doubt in my mind how it was done because, just to confirm that one chip is in the recess, Where the wipers are,
and the rear of the bonnet is above it. Therefore it had to be malicious! It isn't left anywhere for long periods, with the longest being at the supermarket! I'm always parked near the entrances, and trolley bays, so nobody is going to be walking around, with a hammer and punch! Where I live we don't get callers, other than Royal Mail, and an endless procession of delivery couriers! Could it be a neighbour? The properties are Regency (1812) and mine looks down the mews. Well, in these instances, the culprits are likely to be the ones you least suspect! A rep who used to call on me, had somehow aspired to having two properties, near to Leeds Uni. One of them had five students plus a you bank trainee. Someone was sh!tting in the sink, and I can't remember how it was figured out who was doing it, but......... |

Maybe Jehovah's Witnesses, they are nasty when you don't open the door to them.Just last week they let down 3 tyres in the street.

Merc, isn't it? I had a crack on mine that appeared from the bottom corner a few days after stone impact. Don't be paranoid. Bad for you.

defo 1 of your neebors has it in for u..if i were you id sit at your windy all night and try and catch them .get a video of the culprits in the act,,,, because they will be back to do it again, take some eckies to keep u awake ,and stop u from nodding off,

If someone wanted to vandalise your car, they would have done a much better job. United Biscuits is right.
|
|
By:
I'm not being paranoid united b but I still stand by my point of view which, again, is how does a stone hit the area which is recessed and below the line of the bonnet, and the incidence of having two at the same time, and plus, if a stone is coming you actually see it, and hear it strike.
Anyway, I'll leave it there, and get it fixed, and if anything else happens the suspicions will be proven! |
|
By:
Depends on the arc of the stone, I suppose. The damage is more to do with the speed of the car than the speed of the stone. I didn't see the one that hit my car, but we sure heard it! Could be you didn't hear yours because you were listening to something else, a voice perhaps. As I say, in my experience, the crack appeared days after; and the guy who fixed it said that is not unusual.

Yeah....I'll be interested to hear the repairers point of view!

Had the screen expertly renewed by "Auto Windscreens" yesterday....
The fitter said it was highly suspicious, as he never saw a case where there were two breakages (though obviously it is possible) and foremost, as to how anything could have hit in the area with the parked wipers, where it is below the edge of the bonnet! NB..my version of his comments..... Re arc of the stone.....Obviously they are always falling in an arc but if it happened to coincide so as to be in position, it would have to be a millisecond at 70mph! Just bloody glad for insurance, as I had to pay £60, whereas it would otherwise have been ten times as much! |

If the car was vandalised ,how do you think someone managed to chip the windscreen below the bonnet line ? Does not sound credible imo ,I don’t know what make or model nor have you posted pics of the damage .When you originally posted it was around time we had crossover of frost in morning and then very hot full sun ,this could have opened up very small unknown to you chips ,the line crack fits this type of car cold/hot dynamic .Someone leaving something heavy on bonnet and opened it ,something blown on bonnet by wind or some idiot trying to change wiper blades and allowthing them or it to crash onto screen are but a few suggestions ,all more likely than an elf with a center punch imo .How long you had car ?

Why are you being so challenging, and cynical, when the Auto Windscreen fitter also said it was suspicious?

Let me guess....you are a Police CID Officer! For your reference it's a Mercedes SLK....First reg Jan '18.... Just try to understand, that the bottom edge of the screen is 52mm below the trailing edge of the bonnet, because the wipers are concealed when parked! I'm not going to bother trying to explain again, as you clearly have no idea about cars, and seemingly would argue about anything! |
