As it obviously only applies to UK internet users, surely anyone using a VPN (which gives the impression you're located somewhere else in the world) will easily bypass the checks?

What check is it? No check here in Germany though i've often been told to contact Frau Merkel's office regarding payment of a fine for browsing illegal websites on the internet.

UK government is demanding people hand over personal details to allow access to dirty sites, to make it easier for scammers to blackmail people and big data leaks to lead to people losing their jobs and their relationships failing.

The UK are introducing age checks to access porn sites. Either enter a driving licence number or get a pass at the newsagents. It only applies to UK residents, obviously, but kids know a lot about technical stuff these days so I reckon it won't pose a problem for them.

How TF is a "newsagent pass" going to work? Store as a "cookie"? Install software? Do you use it to log onto a portal that will then track your internet activity?
I undersatnd the sentiment of stopping kids accessing dirty sites but you fear it'll just cause other problems. The frequency at which websites leak databases of private data is not instilling confidence, never mind the UK itself asking for data itself. Then e.g. selling it on to journalists.. |

The scope for this going wildly wrong is reaching 110% on the Just Checking "impending ****-up-o-meter". Every dodgy site on the planet seeing a UK IP will start demanding details to make theft, fraud and identity theft a breeze, and the government are sayng that's what you should be doing! |

LOL newsnight just said the incompetent ******s creating this sent a mass email about it today, and rather sending a BCC or sending individual emails, bulk mailed everyone so everone reciving it could see everyone else receiving it.
This is basic incompetence, people I know who aren't remotely geeky know to not do this. |
