When does it start being less of a "racism" thing and more of the white "luvvies" patronising black people?
I was watching Frankie Boyles NWO show last night and Sarah Pascoe just had to drop the "racism" stuff in there whilst sitting next to her black friend, it came across pathetically patronising as well
If I was a black individual I would be telling them to f*** off and stick their fake niceness up their ar*es

It comes up across as a 'you poor thing' boo hoo type thing when the "luvvies" start with it in my opinion
Its shameless and doesn't help black individuals at all, its making them victims and you can't achieve a level playing field with it

What about that Lister fellow from Red Dwarf, he was in it years ago?
Don't remember a fuss being made of his skin colour back then.
As Sontaran has hinted at, making a fuss over someone's skin colour is racist, including fawning over them.

There have been a few black characters recently:
The woman married to Jude (Mary's son) The guy who had a brief fling with Liz (I think he was in Layer Cake and a Brookside regular) Luke (worked in the garage) Luke's sister Jason's dad Jason

Diversity boxes ticked, so no need for 'hard core' types in the show. Notice also that the pedo gang featured in the show a while ago were white male. Remarkable silence from the diversity crowd about that one though, especially given the appalling pedo sex abuse from a certain non white section. You would think they would insist on inclusion.

Just for the record, the storyline was about a sex ring rather than a paedophile gang. She was over the age of consent but was being coerced into having sex with her "fiance's" friends.
Ultimately, he intended to sell her as a sex slave abroad.

Oh I see, thanks for the clarification IAWN. There exists the opportunity of a story line there then. 1.01 they won't do it though, or even mention it in passing.

Forgot to say he was coercing her into having sex with his associates and receiving payment from them.
It's the only soap I watch and since Xmas, I probably only see about one episode in two.

10 things that happened on Coronation Street before getting a black family:
Ernest Bishop's murder, 1978 Deirdre's love triangle, 1983 Rita Fairclough's abuse, 1989 Free the Weatherfield One campaign, 1998 Hayley Cropper, the first transgender character, 1998 Sarah-Lou's pregnancy aged 13, 2000 Richard Hillman's killing spree, 2002/2003 Katy Harris kills her father, 2005 Tony Gordon takes hostages at gunpoint in the factory, 2010 Tram crash on 50th anniversary, 2010
Looking at the odds on the Manchester demographics then 1 in 50 families are black....not sure of the odds of all of the above happening on the same street

If Coronation St was real the Police would probably have it demolished, it does have one good point in that none of the residents waste their time watching soaps.

Actually Lloyd had an all-black family for a while. He reunited with an old girlfriend who had had a daughter by him years ago. Moreover the daughter was a lesbian who had a fling with Sofa so they beat Kana as the first interracial lesbian couple on Corrie
