When I was young I become worried that one day I'd be buried but not actually be dead. I remember telling my brother that if it is believed I have died, I want my head to be cut off in order to make sure.
People have been buried alive. Nowadays even with all the diagnostics and understanding of modern technology people are found alive in morgues or even when getting buried, never mind back then. I remember reading of them digging up coffins for whatever reasons and sometimes finding evidence inside like scratches and fingernails in the wood. Terrible way to go.
