Better news than a millennium barn dance at Yeovil aerodrome.

Still waiting on Monkey Tennis though. C5 missing a trick there.

Middle aged straight white man getting his own series on the BBC. I'm Starting to believe Alan Partridge isn't real.

Good point Crisp, perhaps they'll pull him off after the first show like they did with Matt Chapman.

Alan Partidge never made an appearance on the favourite cheese thread. I was hoping he'd be a long term lurker and it would flush him out.

The woman he works with doesn't seem to have done anything I can think of except work with him?
Actually now I look .. she's done a lot more stuff they just make her look older and frumpy.

No sure about the actual show, but hand washing clip was classic Partridge.

Walking down the road, with someone in background shouting 'Partridge you wank*r'!!

Couple giggles but not as good as I'd hoped.

You raised a couple of giggles more than I did J.C. I thought it was poor to put it mildly and I won't be watching another episode again, that ship has well and truly sailed I'm afraid.

Can't quite remember what I chuckled at. Once was the dirty name mixup where he "saw what he'd done there", then something else later but I think it was literally 2 mildly funny moments.

Was very poor compared to the two classic series...

I had low expectations, but I thought it was excellent, it didn't miss a beat and was the perfect vehicle for an older AP.  Many nuances and details, the guy with the 'this time' clipboard who didn't know who AP was, a scruffy Simon totally out of place using the 'slick' touch screen, the hacktivist emails and all the name plays.

Loved the two bits of him walking across set to interview someone and just timing it wrong so there was another 2 seconds of him walking in silence. Very well done.

It didn't work at all, because the original shows were broadcast as though they were genuine shows that we were watching as part of the schedule. That was what made it all so excruciating

This, by contrast, was presented as an outside view of how a bad TV show is made. It was just bad TV.

I managed one giggle at 'Clunt', the first time.

Switched off after twenty minutes.

Just watched this...

Not up to the standard of vintage Partridge, but somewhat enjoyable viewing all the same, on a par with what I expected to be fair.

Very surprised that coogan decided to do this,I thought he d taken the character as far as he could already.the best comedy series always stop while people are asking for more.he has plenty of other projects & money can’t be a factor.

a few good moments but on the whole disappointing - the best Partridge was when he lived in the motel

I was a little disappointed with the opening episode.

The problem with Partridge is we measure it against Knowing Me, Knowing You and I’m Alan Partridge which were pure genius.

Fingers crossed the current series improves.

Partridge is funny when he is confident but deluded. In this he was insecure and vulnerable - big difference in the way you perceive the comedy.

I didn't last that long. It was horrible worse than Warren that preceded it Sad

Excellent point, steerforth. This is supposed to be a man who shot one of his guests dead on live TV, yet still couldn't understand why he didn't get a second series.

I suppose the writers would claim that having subsequently driven to Dundee in his bare feet, and spent decades in local radio, his confidence must be shot to pieces. Which is fair enough, I suppose, but it's just not funny to watch at all.

He seems to be favoured on TV but I have yet to laugh much at this character.

got to say, I thought the second episode was really good. Some lovely blink or you'll miss em moments and the turnaround at the end where he turned tables on the guest was excellent.

Then Fleabag afterwards too. A reminder that the beeb can still be the daddy sometimes.

Just caught up on iPlayer.

I think its growing on me a bit.

Does remind me of Ricky Gervais sometimes.  Or should that be the other way round?

Poor(ish) first episode but loving it now and yes I get your Ricky Gervais analogy.

The format of I'm Alan Partridge will never be beaten, IMHO, but this IS growing on me, too.  I'm yet to watch an episode more than once, but I'm sure that when I do I'll pick up on things (in the background and quick references) that I missed first time around.

The on-going 'battle' between AP and the 'on-the-scene reporter' is becoming hilarious, I think.  As are the scenes with the bloke who used to be on Byker Grove when I was a kid!  This week's was brilliant.  Wonder how many takes it took?

I can't believe Psychic Simon lives on as a character, though....
