The Brain Cell problem was Cameron's The vote should never have gone to the People

He did not realise the extent of peoples feelings  regarding the State of The UK  ..

Regarding Immigration the horse had already  bolted and is in another county , regarding being Part of the EU

Have a look at the state that is in ,If we go no deal  , we wont be the Last.  Unemployment figures are at the 1/10

level in both Italy and France ,Spain above that ..

They might struggle to get some state provided services but the local businesses in Andalucia will be strongly in favour of allowing them to stay.

northanlite - "they paid in, seems fair"

One of the most uttered lies spoken by the older generation. When they paid in they were expected to live to approx 68-70 years of age. Todays reality is they will live to be at least 80+, so instead of claiming pension, health, care, etc for the anticipated 3-5 years, they will be claiming (taking out of the system without now paying in) for 15/20+ years rather than the 3/5 years that was anticipated.

Obviously it's just a huge Ponzi scheme but the people that say "I paid in all my life" are in reality relying on their children, grandchildren and quite probably great grandchildren.

Some actuary somewhere needs shooting but that is the reality. It is also the reason that nearly all company pensions have been closed and are many, many billions in deficit.

I imagine the actuaries that failed to spot this or act in time are sitting on a beach somewhere telling anyone that will listen "I paid in all my life"!

hardly their fault if they paid what was asked of them

had they been qualified actuaries rather than shop workers or factory workers
or miners or salesmen they may have been better placed to point out to the government
at the time that higher deductions should have been taken

the government with its constant urge to reduce taxes to win votes must also take
blame for mess along with the actuaries who were probably doing their bidding.

we must look after our old folk in the manner we would wish for ourselves to be
looked after.

It’s not true that people are living longer

In countries that kept good records from 1200 - 1745
21 yr olds would reach an average age of between 62 and 70 yrs

In Victorian times female 73 male 75

Working class today about 72 men 76 women

I generally agree with your post donny. Looking after the old is one of the true measures of a civilised society.

I'm no spring chicken myself but i cringe whenever I hear old men boasting of paying in all their life when in reality the grandchild they are lecturing will be footing the bill, as that grandchild REALLY will be paying in ALL of his life with little prospect of any payback when he retires at 78!

It is indeed down to successive governments and a direct result of Party Politics. Like all of the biggest problems in society a long-term plan/solution is required - but Party Politics is not conducive to long-term planning or lasting solutions.

The problem today is not caused by people living longer , it is caused by people not leaving school until they are close the 30, millions going to university when in the past they would have started with at 16
That’s the problem
By:
lfc1971
When: 25 Feb 19 10:16
You see the older generations did put in the work., they put in 50 years of work
Served the time , that is not something young people do today
That’s the problem right there
By:
donny osmond
When: 25 Feb 19 10:16
...and yet we do little to educate folk to expect to pay for the pension they will deserve

then again governments expect folk to spend and not save for themselves, as spending is relied
upon by government.

The problem is one of those who are working ( or not working)
Not those who are retired , address that

lfc - sorry but the fact that people are living longer isn't really up for debate - its a good thing (lifestyle, medical advances etc) - but it is a fact. Another fact (although I agree too many are going to Uni), i think you will find they leave Uni at about 21/22 rather than 30.

Re Older generations - your comment "They put in 50 years of work, served the time" That's just not true either I'm afraid. The norm back then was that one of them may have "served the time", but most typically for people that are now into retirement - one partner stayed home with children. You will probably find that on average they put in "50 years of work" between them, so 25 years each on average - but both entitled to a state pension, both in need of healthcare etc. There are exceptions but i think you would struggle to find many couples that are of pension age today where each of them "put in 50 years work".

I’m sorry those are the facts regarding life expectancy

Are there more 75 year olds ?
Yes the population is greater , but of course that also means that they worked paying taxes ( in theory )

Yes in the past married women may not have worked and in theory today more so
That bag or may not be true   , but again if true then it should be easier to pay for pensions today

Not harder
By:
lfc1971

The norm back then was for almost everyone to leave school at 16 possibly 14and start work
And men would not finish until they had put in 50 years of work
Women started work until married  and children (then often worked part time or full time

ok lfc - it seems you are correct, people aren't living longer, all the old folk of today did 50+ years down the pit from the age of 14 and all the current issues in society have been caused by the lazy youth of today, lolling around in Uni until they are 30.

It was good talking with you.

You dont stop paying tax when you retire from work.
The big problem here is those well educated types in tax funded jobs who use underhanded tricks to avoid tax how many people who are not PAYE pay their full share?

ffs lfc - I was ambivalent on Brexit but now you say it's gonna deprive us of your well thought out views, wit and wisdom?

nonsense the management its got nothing to do with brexit or myself but whether you are capable of thinking for youself or not
You may be , anythings possible?
But there is no evidence of that so far

if you wish to look at brexit, well you say you are ambivalent, but you are not
unless of course you didn't vote

If you did vote, and voted remain
Well that's just another little sign that you cant think for yourself, remainers are like that

how did you vote as a matter of interest ?, assuming you did
