What does domestic abuse have to do with it, if everyone involved was a consenting adult many countries (and states, Florida being in the god-fearin'-bible-belt however) wouldn't even consider it a crime.

Depends if he knew or had a reason to suspect that though doesn't it, from a moral point of view. You could be served a curry from a takeway from a trafficked illegal immigrant, doesn't mean you agree with it. (I await suitable moral outrage at that analogy, this is 2019 after all, where the default position is moral outrage and misinterpreting what people say! )
