horse chestnut trees aren't ubiquitous and this would penalise non growing horse chestnut tree countries .

So what is "break dancing". Do they just go onto a floor and do the cha cha eating kit kats?

Give me a break. The world is stuffed full of imbecile liberal tree huggers who promote stupid ideas such as this break dancing nonsense. Oh for the return of a megalomaniac dictator who'll rid us of these people and return us to a society akin to the 1950s.

There's another thread about microwaving porridge, maybe that could be an Olympic event too?

The point has been made about dressage having been an Olympic Sport for ever.
Personally I'm not sure about anything that has to be judged subjectively.
Boxing would have to continue till one contestant was knocked out.

Posy - any chance you are taking this just a bit too seriously?  Break dancing is not so very far away from Ice Dancing or Synchronised Swimming. AND the Olympics has a long and honorable history of supporting minority sports.  My mind goes back to the Irish team beating the Germans at Bicycle Polo, the Belgian winning the live pigeon shooting, the fun we had spotting the synchonicity failures in the solo Synchronised Swimming etc etc etc

Morpeth's pal Tapper might well have won the Rope Climbing too.

Let's face it, a lot of the old sports are boring to watch.

Fencing.  Yawn. Foil...epee...give them sabres FFS.

Sailing...ho hum...

The winter olympics was made watchable because of the introduction of modern sports involving snowboards, acrobatics and races.

Mind you, I'd scrap any sport where the Olympics is not the pinnacle of achievement....e.g. golf, tennis, football, rugby etc.

Fastest , Highest , Strongest ........... End !

Which of these criteria does Break Dancing fit ?
Same could be said of Ice Dancing , Synchronised swimming and many , many more Blush

The Spartans used to kill their weak babies so only the strong of their race survived.

If we're going to get all Greek-style about competitiveness, I'll wager the hand wringing PC liberals would be against THAT as well!

With just those three categories, you could probably fit the olympics into a long weekend.

Dressage is not dancing. It's exercises designed to demonstrate the strength and suppleness of the horse for use as cavalry. If it's anything, it's horse gymnastics. But it's not dancing.

Dressage dates back to classical Greek horsemanship and the military who trained their horses to perform movements intended to evade or attack the enemy whilst in battle. The earliest work on training horses was written by Xenophon, a Greek Military Commander born around 430 BC.

Dressage continued to be developed by the military who studied horsemanship as part of their military training and during the Renaissance European aristocrats displayed highly trained horses in equestrian pageants. The great European riding masters of the time developed a training system and the Imperial Spanish Riding School of Vienna was established in 1572 and all dressage training today is based around their principles.
