One sticks in my mind from the quiz era. I had spent a while compiling one that was hopefully google proof, cryptic type questions or ones that required multiple answers etc.
Anyway, I typed in the following question: Give THREE examples of English words that have the letters PST somewhere in them in a row. After I had clicked on the POST REPLY button I immediately started hitting the REFRESH to see who would be first in with a correct answer. After one damn click, which must have been no more than a second or so, Pokermonster's answer of CAPSTONE, UPSTAIRS and UPSTART appeared on my screen! I honestly couldn't believe my eyes, it was like some sort of magic trick. I've always remembered that because to this day it still seems impossible. I asked him about it later and he said he didn't think too much about anything in the quizzes, just typed the first thing that came into his head, but that still doesn't really explain the almost instant answer. There wasn't enough time to type three words, nevermind think of three correct answers. |

Didn't you know Pokermonster is a card sharp?
He'll soon have you snookered or needing to throw a six. |
|
By:
I don't know about a card sharp, but he was pretty much unbeatable at the quizzes that used to be on here.

Oh, you mean run a quiz myself? Well, okay, I'll have a go. Please bear in mind I'm nearer to 80 than 70, so I'll be slower than most. 60s music is good for me though.

You might have to remind me. I can clearly remember things from 40 years ago, but not what I had for breakfast.

Another good memory of here was my golf ball Eiffel Tower question. Rob Dylan and Orioles got in a right old barney over it!!!
|
|
By:
let me guess, "Was it a balata or a Slazenger bomb?"
|
|
By:
Not quite! It was a physics brainteaser about hitting golf balls off the top of the tower. A few got all hot under the collar about it.

It turned into a slanging match about who had the best qualifications.

Middle eastern sitcoms was another great thread. Really very funny.

If not very politically correct.

Genuine question. Do quizzes still take place on this forum? Happy days.
|
|
By:
old school quizzes still take place now and again (hosted elsewhere) - and usually a good turnout
there's a quiz room diary thread that gets bumped every now and again when one's scheduled. full details on said thread. |

I don't know HGS, I've had a long hiatus away from the forum. They were already dropping off when I left, but in 2008 and 2009 there were literally hundreds of them. Sometimes half a dozen or so per day.
