I know it well;my favourite capital city in europe.
Go to the carriage museum and the nearby monastery....also wander around the Baixa Trams are very user friendly and good to use especially when getting to the upper parts. |

I've had excellent fish at Marisqueira Santa Marta ,a local restaurant...particularly the Sole.
A tip ...restaurants always bring out bread and cheese at the beginning of the meal.If you start to eat it you're charged...if you leave it you're not. I'm sure you'll enjoy the place. |

Go down to quayside with the railway/ road bridge to your right and you can get the rare sight of planes flying over the bridge(coming into land) rail and road traffic over the bridge and ships under all in the same view.

Stop being tight posy. You are supposed to be on holiday!
Can you make any accommodation recommendations ? Is it best to be in / near the main square? |

make sure you buy a train ticket before you get on a train, I forgot to buy one. on one of the last trains, tried to explain to the guard I was unsure of this, he disappeared and two minutes later the train stops, he reappears with a policeman behind him holding a gun, they hoy me off the train in the middle of nowhere. The quayside is good for drinks

Lisbon is remarkably cheap for a capital city
make sure you eat in a traditional marisqueira - superb seafood. Marisqueira M in Bairro Alto is excellent Belem worth a visit to see the stunning Monument of Discoveries - Vasco da Gama, Henry the Navigator, Christopher Columbus all set off from here. Catch a local train along the coast to Estoril and Cascais Get yourself to Benfica/Sporting/Belenenses game |

Visited whilst on holiday in Estoril and Cascais about 30 Minutes away on the train.
Did the bus tour but it seemed to go on forever you might be better doing the trolley bus tour. If you want a day away Cascais is a nice little town. Easy and cheap train ride away. Visit Jardin dos Frangos, the best Piri Piri chicken I've ever tasted and good value for money. |

Oh and the Chinese restaurant in the Casino at Estoril is very good. The railway station is almost opposite.

The one time I went me and a friend ended up at a porn convention, eye opening. Stayed in setubal, some beautiful beaches and coastline round that way.
