For me, 1989.

Mrs H did manage to find me an excellent suit at Oxfam when I needed one for an amateur dramatics production in about 1996.

That is still my 'go to' suit i.e. when I 'go to' a wedding, funeral, interviews (ha) etc.

I used to buy at least one suit a year decent makes boss, hackett, crombie etc for racing, family do,s etc but stoppedva few years back anddont use them these days, got about a dozen hardly used as knew, looked online locally for a vintage shop to sell them to but other than ebay seems its not easy to sell them and I cant get my headround taking the pics etc for ebay, ive also noticed lately ex players, sportsmen wearing long sleeved, 3.4 button , collared fine knitted sweaters, ive got about 6 hardly used ,as new JOHN SMEDLY tops ,different colours in wardrobe were around 80/90 quid a pop when I bought them a few years back, classic line that never go out of fashion, might have to get the son to sort out the ebay route for me or bootsale on a nice day

I'll bet, I hope you don't wear it with a Dickie Bow that lights up and spins as well.

The last time I bought a suit was when my mother died in 2003.Got to wear it 5 weeks later when my father died.Too much grief too soon.

It still fits perfectly. Other than weddings and funerals the only other time that I've worn it was to my daughter's graduation.

Much the same could be said about the last time that I've worn a tie.

As an aside,it surprises me to see people turning up at funerals in casual dress. I've attended a few funerals of fellow allotment holders so I'm not talking about youngsters.

Having not bought a suit since around c.2000, I have bought two in the last couple of years - one for my neice's wedding and a penguin suit for a black tie party.

Something outlandish like a a 70s or 80s "fashion" suit can look ridiculous now but a classic can be worn forever? A lot of people now are wearing suits that I'm sure no different to what was worn in the 50s or 60s. You could easily imagine Steve McQueen in a period film wearing a suit sold today.

I have a zoot suit. Never goes out of style Laugh.
