Farage has stood for election to the House of Commons seven times, in five general elections and two by-elections, but has not won any of those elections.
Quite a simple reason really:Farage has stood for election to the House of Commons seven times, in five general elections and two by-elections, but has not won any of those elections.
Farage has been an elected MEP for a couple of decades.
If there was PR in this country he would be an MP.
Very hard for a new party to get an MP in our broken system.

20 years drawing a wage and expenses from the EU, and says he,d stand again if scenario came about, sounds like the original undisputed number 1 reluctant remainer,

When Farage mentioned leaving and adopting WTO rules under the terms of Article 24, he was met with stony silence from the EU stonewallers.
Which could indicate that they still believe Brexit can be averted. And it's now or never.

if wto rules are so good why are most brexiteers desperate to sign trade deals to get out of them if most of the world they tell us trade on them and if its so easy to move on to wto rules why are the hardline brexiteers standing by the malthouse compromise which says we should pay their hated EU extra money on top of their hated 39 billion to get an extra year on top of the non excistent 2 year transition under no deal, meaning the likes of farage, hardline brexiteers think it will take 3 years to sort out trade deal after leaving on wto terms some fool might ask if wto is so good why pay extra to get of them , how many go under in those 3 yeard

It gives us at least two years grace to sort out an arrangement on present EU terms
The situation would also concentrate minds into working out a deal, instead of this will they won't they leave if we stand firm, as being practised currently by the EU.

If I understand you correctly, Dr. Crippen, you are supposing that the EU is betting on the UK not leaving if a withdrawal agreement can not be reached and Brexit would end up being no-deal.
Why then are you convinced that the EU will agree to submitting the paperwork for an interims phase? Wouldn't they just go "nah, we we ain't signing that. We think you'll come back if we don't because you fear a no-deal."

It would be too late to go back if we've already left. And minds could concentrate on meaningful negotiations.
Why shouldn't the EU want to come to a trading arrangement, which would be better for both parties than trading on bare WTO rules once we're out?

It's the last chance saloon for many of the EU MPs if we crash out with their elections coming up soon after we leave.
They have to tell their voters why they haven't come to a suitable arrangement with the UK, if their trading is going to suffer as a result of what looks like a gamble on averting Brexit.

IT, that would necessitate that I even think those are the "EU tactics".
Dr. Crippen: Ah, so no deal and the UK gambling on the EU agreeing to that interims phase. Maybe, we'll see. I don't think Article 24 will be used in that scenario however.

Most people on the continent understand that the UK has been batting for unicorns and that's who will primarily be blamed for not having come to a suitable arrangement.

The EU making arrangements for if there is a 'no deal' Brexit to keep no hard border in Ireland.
Looks like they are suggesting a technology based solution.

If they EU don't want to implement Article 24, there's no reason why we can't work out a trading arrangement after we leave. That's if the EU want one, but I somehow think they will.

every arrangement outside the EU makes uk worse off but you seem confident any uk party opposing the reff result would be punished at the polls,so why would EU countries punish their m,s for protecting their single market, rees mogg predicting 50 years before uk see,s any benefit from Brexit, so as all EU people say today short term shock today small price to pay for protecting single market access for next 50 years you just cant see the argument from both sides, you havnt left on no problem wto rules yet but clinging on a 2 year liferaft of staying on the same terms were on now till the inks dry on any contract I,d take with a pinch of salt any words surrounding wto rules free trade agreements 2 years stay of execution etc

When we joined the Common Market, three years later as members we reaped the benefits of membership by asking the IMF for a loan to tide us over because we were broke. Some good it did us being in the EU then.
The UK will get on fine outside of the EU. Just like the rest of the world does that isn't in the EU.

Will Corbyn get behind May's deal? Only needs a just over a hundred labour mps and it is through. He tried for GE but failef he said he does not want a no deal. So I thi k this will be his plan B

how many left a trading block of 600 million people and ripped up 60 free trade deals as they left, before having any outside of those signed up or ready to sign, before her troubles 2 weeks ago may and fox were going to big up a deal with new Zealand as a biggee

The BBC as usual are preventing the truth coming out.
Which is incredible way for a publicly funded organisation to act in a democracy. They resemble an organisation within a totalitarian society.
What is comical is when they accuse other countries like Russia and China of suppressing the news, when the BBC do exactly that themselves while pretending to be impartial.

Dr C's post of 11:15 is entirely correct. The BBC ceased to be a credible news source many years ago, continually flouting the rules of their charter regards impartiality.
I welcome a £4.00 rise in the licence fee, however. That's another few quid saved at least. :)
