Report trilby22 • January 28, 2019 12:30 PM GMT
Hardman is currently in a relationship with John Woodcock, the Member of Parliament for Barrow and Furness,[15] [16] who currently sits as an independent MP, having resigned from the Labour Party amid an investigation into claims of sexual harassment.[17]

Blaklely I suppose appeals to people who see the label "economist" and think that makes her smart and wise when of course every economist on the planet has a different opinion, and having that label on her doesn't make her leftist tripe any more worthwhile, no matter how she states her OPINION as fact.

I'm sure her economist friends thought Venezuela was onto a winner, an interesting experiment...

Ross Greer had about double the intelligence of the idiot, James Cleverly (what a misnomer !)

Every word Ross said was correct !

Churchill was just an alcoholic depressive figure-head ....I would bet he had no useful say in the war's strategy !

Churchill has still got approx. 1000 years in Hell to go for his responsibility of the use of Poisonous Gas weapons :
.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/shortcuts/2013/sep/01/winston-churchill-shocking-use-chemical-weapons

Secrecy was paramount. Britain's imperial general staff knew there would be outrage if it became known that the government was intending to use its secret stockpile of chemical weapons. But Winston Churchill, then secretary of state for war, brushed aside their concerns.

As a long-term advocate of chemical warfare, he was determined to use them against the Russian Bolsheviks. In the summer of 1919, 94 years before the devastating strike in Syria, Churchill planned and executed a sustained chemical attack on northern Russia.

The British were no strangers to the use of chemical weapons. During the third battle of Gaza in 1917, General Edmund Allenby had fired 10,000 cans of asphyxiating gas at enemy positions, to limited effect. But in the final months of the first world war, scientists at the governmental laboratories at Porton in Wiltshire developed a far more devastating weapon: the top secret "M Device", an exploding shell containing a highly toxic gas called diphenylaminechloroarsine. The man in charge of developing it, Major General Charles Foulkes, called it "the most effective chemical weapon ever devised".

Trials at Porton suggested that it was indeed a terrible new weapon. Uncontrollable vomiting, coughing up blood and instant, crippling fatigue were the most common reactions. The overall head of chemical warfare production, Sir Keith Price, was convinced its use would lead to the rapid collapse of the Bolshevik regime.

"If you got home only once with the gas you would find no more Bolshies this side of Vologda."The cabinet was hostile to the use of such weapons, much to Churchill's irritation. He also wanted to use M Devices against the rebellious tribes of northern India. "I am strongly in favour of using poisoned gas against uncivilised tribes," he declared in one secret memorandum.

He criticised his colleagues for their "squeamishness", declaring that "the objections of the India Office to the use of gas against natives are unreasonable. Gas is a more merciful weapon than [the] high explosive shell, and compels an enemy to accept a decision with less loss of life than any other agency of war."

He ended his memo on a note of ill-placed black humour: "Why is it not fair for a British artilleryman to fire a shell which makes the said native sneeze?" he asked. "It is really too silly."

A staggering 50,000 M Devices were shipped to Russia: British aerial attacks using them began on 27 August 1919, targeting the village of Emtsa, 120 miles south of Archangel. Bolshevik soldiers were seen fleeing in panic as the green chemical gas drifted towards them. Those caught in the cloud vomited blood, then collapsed unconscious.

The attacks continued throughout September on many Bolshevik-held villages: Chunova, Vikhtova, Pocha, Chorga, Tavoigor and Zapolki. But the weapons proved less effective than Churchill had hoped, partly because of the damp autumn weather. By September, the attacks were halted then stopped. Two weeks later the remaining weapons were dumped in the White Sea. They remain on the seabed to this day in 40 fathoms of water.

Leopard I'm tired of arguing the same old crap with you and your like, it's just so TIRESOME as you never listen to what anyone says.
The left selectively quote things like that from churchill without quoting the rest of it.

That disgusting article by the guaridan takes quotes from different times about different actions and different weapons and tries to create at totally untrue narrative. Typical left wing crap. The full quotes about e.g. tribes are that he thought that shooting and shelling them was ridiculous and he wanted to save lifes and casualties by using non lethal tear gas on them to drive them away.

Stop regurgitating left wing lies.
Report Just Checking • January 28, 2019 2:03 PM GMT
Wy don't you e.g. use the full quote, Guardian / Leopard?
Guardian deliberalty cut down to misquote (and adjoing to an unrelated event) to say :
"I am strongly in favour of using poisoned gas against uncivilised tribes," he declared in one secret memorandum.

Churchill actual quote below.
"It is sheer affectation to lacerate a man with the poisonous fragment of a bursting shell and to boggle at making his eyes water by means of lachrymatory gas. I am strongly in favour of using poisoned gas against uncivilised tribes. The moral effect should be so good that the loss of life should be reduced to a minimum. It is not necessary to use only the most deadly gasses: gasses can be used which cause great inconvenience and would spread a lively terror and yet would leave no serious permanent effects on most of those affected."
i.e. as said below "It was never proposed to use chlorine or phosgene, but Churchill confused the matter when he used the general term “poison gas” in a departmental minute in 1919 ".
https://winstonchurchill.org/publications/finest-hour/finest-hour-160/leading-myths-churchill-advocated-the-first-use-of-lethal-gas/

Who could argue with that? He's arguing that using non lethal in effect tear gases on natives is better than blowing them apart with shells. And he argues that loss of life should be kept to a minimum and he feels this method would help that. Guardian scum would never put the full quote because of that.

I'm not getting in another anti churchill argument, we've had them too many times on here and they follow the same path. Life is too short. This forum is like groundhog day and I predicted 75 minutes ago it would go this way again and likely you'd be at the front of it.

Report The Leopard • January 28, 2019 2:15 PM GMT
Churchill's poisonous gas weapons were a lot more debilitating than tear gas :

A staggering 50,000 'M' Devices were shipped to Russia: British aerial attacks using them began on 27 August 1919, targeting the village of Emtsa, 120 miles south of Archangel.

Bolshevik soldiers were seen fleeing in panic as the green chemical gas drifted towards them. Those caught in the cloud vomited blood, then collapsed unconscious.

Churchill was a Boris Johnson type of character.

Now we have a freer media (internet) we can see what these flawed individuals are really like.
Report Just Checking • January 28, 2019 2:20 PM GMT
If you can't be bothered reading on this further than the guardian crap it's you that is the loser. You'd rather read carefully cherry picked cut down misquotes from the Guadian entirely chosen and trung together to fulfill their left wing agenda, than read full long undedited actual quotes put in context and segregated into actual events.

You continually wilfully misinterpret people on here to put a negative slant on it for your own reaosons, you are known for it so there is no hope of you gaining anything from this either against one of the greatest men Britain has produced, so I'm out, better things to do.

Of course I despise fascism, said it often on here before. As of course the left seem to think anyone who is against the hard left is therefore a fascist.
As a guy on the awful "the big question" yesterday pointed out (as if it needed to be pointed out) the way the left throw the word fascism around now is a joke, the word has become meaningless.

Could you imagine the madness the greens would get up to if they had full power? Corbyn and his cronies are hard left deliberately moderating their language to avoid scaring moderate voters. It's appropriate to point out of course, just after holocaust memorial day, that if isntaed of Churchill we'd had a spineless Green or Corbyn style appeasing leader who would have capitulated to hitler and either let him roll in or called a nice hand wringing truce (for as long as Hitler took to regroup and decide to invade), rather than having some jews left from the death camps and some left in Europe, we'd have approximately zero, and the lovely EU would never have existed as it would still be part of the 1000 year reich...
