and to pour petrol on to the fire the "UNITED IRELAND "words are raising their head to fan the flames.

United Ireland. The biggest misnomer ever in the history of mankind.
|

thats what the the feckin plan was all along, and if you look back on posts on this forum after the brexit vote the same subject came up,remember its the EU that want to build this border, nobody else wants it.

Ireland can not be united until the majority of those living in N. Ireland vote for it.
The British government have guaranteed that. |
|
By:
Everything that comes into N.Ireland from S.Ireland has to be checked.
Everything that leaves N.Ireland for S.Ireland also has to be checked. The border between S.Ireland and N.Ireland is the sensible place to do it. |

AND the French and the German army's signing an agreement on border security today, what a strange coincidence.

it will destroy the business's in both Ireland and northern ireland, nobody wants that, and it breaks the belfast agreement .all because the FAT CATS OF EUROPE,want it.
|

Why then Brassie haven't the ROI entered into talks with the UK to try and solve the problem.
Why did Varadkar as soon as he took over stop ROI tax and customs officers who were working on an electronic solution? |
|
By:
imagine a guy who lives in belfast and whats to go to dublin to work or sell his vegetables and is stopped by German soldiers on the way and asked where is he going.Or a guy driving to belfast to collect a friend at the airport and a French soldier stops him to ask where he is going.

By:
Well I cannot remember anyone discussing this in the run up to the Brexit vote.
It will slow down crossing between the two Irelands, while the checking is done. Will that destroy business? |
|
By:
If the EU insist there is a border around ALL the EU, there is not a lot anyone can say?
The border between the two Irelands will also become a border of the EU. S.Ireland is in the EU, N.Ireland is not in the EU as it is part of the UK. |
|
By:
because the UK dont want a border either.IT WILL DESTROY THE IRISH ECONOMY AND IT WILL DESTROY THE NORTHERN IRELAND ECONOMY.It was the UK who suggested the backstop in the first place.to sidestep the belfast agreement which was voted on by all of the irish people north and south.

Brassie people aren't the problem and have never been an issue.
As for goods then currently we do okay in respect of VAT issues on goods crossing the 'border'. |
|
By:
when Scotland rejoin the EU they will split the uk apart.and that's only 7 years away.
|
|
By:
I doubt that Brassie. No appetite for a 2nd indy vote and the SNP are split over the Salmond v Sturgeon fight.
|
|
By:
i guess you have never seen an EU BORDER,And the delays are 4 to 5 hours on a normal day when traffic is moving.well thats the way in Gibraltar.
|
|
By:
aka, wait till you see, brexit is about to reach the courts if the Belfast agreement is broken, and its the EU trying to put pressure on UK,BY DOING THIS,for 2 years they have said"no hard border" and today they say "we will have to have a border"they are trying to put pressure on the UK government, but its just back fired.

Are they being offered another referendum then? Will if it happens we will need to rebuild Hadrian's Wall. I am baffled over all this tbh my fear is that so is May ![]() |

Perhaps biggest problem is that no one in Parliament thought we should leave the EU
except Nigel Farage. and he is no longer there. Parliament is having to do something against their own instinct because that is what the people of this country want. If Parliament did not want to know the peoples opinion, it should have asked. But they know now. Implement it. |
|
By:
it should NOT have asked

Never knew that Brassie about the Spain/Gibraltar border.
For some reason I thought the opposite. |

i think she outsmarted the EU ,when they signed up for the backstop(remember it was Theresa May who proposed it),it also means if there is no hard border in Ireland the UK will be able to trade with the REP of IRELAND (In other words a back door to trade with Europe)when ever the UK leave AND i think someone in the EU only twigged this scenarios at the eleventh hour, hence the announcement today that said"we always know there would be a hard border in ireland in the event of no deal"after two years of saying" we are behind the Irish and 27 states stand united that there will be no hard border in Ireland no matter what the outcome is "
