Statement from 16th November 2018:
Michael Gove and other leading Brexiteer ministers have today decided to stay in the Cabinet - but entered a pact to fight to change Theresa May's controversial deal.
He had been put on resignation watch alongside Andrea Leadsom, Penny Mordaunt and Chris Grayling as the PM's Brexit deal plunged the Tories into civil war.
Number Ten had been on red alert for any of them to walk the plank as they have all voiced major concerns about the PM's hugely controversial Brexit plan.
They have thrown Mrs May a lifeline by pledging to stay on - but have entered a deal to push for a major change to her hugely controversial deal.
They want her to change the wording of the hated customs union backstop exit mechanism so Britain cannot lock the UK into the union for years.
They believe this is the only way the PM stands a chance of getting her deal through a massively hostile Parliament
The PM will be breathing a massive sigh of relief that she has escaped a second day of Cabinet resignations, as her premiership hangs by a thread.
But it sets the stage for a fresh showdown in the coming weeks as ministers may yet decide to walk the plank if they cannot get the change through.
Addressing journalists outside the Environment Office in Westminster, Mr Gove said he 'absolutely' does have confidence in the PM.
Now as your 'fight' appears to have fallen on deaf ears; and none of you have any backbone to confront May; can you all just remind me why you are still in the Cabinet?

EU would't buckle on the backstop even though it's obviously not acceptable and would stop the thing getting passed.
Part of their "lets try to appear to be reasonable while tryng to prevent brexit by mining the road" strategy... |

Actually it's part of their not unreasonable policy of favouring the member who wants to stay in the club over the one who wants to leave.
