there is only two options left.
crash out or stay.
1 too late for a referendum thats gone now
2 delay brexit.thats gone now ,EU will only delay 29th if the UK agree to stay.
3 general election will not change the rules but they can suspend the withdrawal date until new government is formed but rules remain the same.
so its crash out or stay in,if they ask the public they will still be too late with the result.
so the only answer is a general election with a referendum vote on the same date and hope the people vote to stay in,then the EU will talk.

No point in any ref, no point in any 'meaningful'(contradictory word) vote, no point in votes of N/C, no point in voting for anything when it means zilch to the 'elite' The fact that this morning; the ogre is still eating her breakfast in No 10, should not be lost on any citizen of the UK
Report Hanx • January 16, 2019 9:47 AM GMT
What next?

In the short-term nobody knows and you're a liar if you claim you do.

In the longer term, I believe we are witnessing an enormous change, probably for the worst, in society.

However you voted in the last referendum, Leave or Remain, you have been told you're vote doesn't count. Literally, you have been told that, over the past couple of years by any number of MP's in terms like 'People didn't vote to be worse off.....people voted to curb immigration..... etc.

They have, basically, p1ssed down your necks and told you it was raining, playing politics, reducing everything to 'the deal', jockeying for power, either as the Government (Labour) or Leader of the Tory party (Johnson, Gove, Raab, Hunt etc). They've basically done whatever they wanted, bar leaving the EU and told us it was in our interest.

The relationship between the electorate - who mandated one thing (yes a very painful, seismic thing therefore one best attacked immediately, to deliver certainty of purpose and direction) and a Parliament that have delivered....well....ummm... - has been irretrevably broken.

So we have no fith in our political system or the filth that populate it.

Alongside that, we have a loss of faith in the mass-media, to tell us anything approaching the truth. They have colonised language to the point where 'cliff edge', 'crash out', 'no deal' 'extreme right' etc are now accepted lingua franca of the dissemination of news, with any pretence at impartiality thrown out of the window.

The BBC are the biggest culprits in this. Buy The Guardian, The European, The Mail or The Sun and you know what you are getting - and that is your prejudices re-enforced. The BBC still maintains it has some degree of impartiality (read it's risible 'Why You Can Trust The BBC' section on its website and then compare it with what they feed you daily), unable to recognise its own connivance in a social engineering project no one signed up to.

You lose faith in too many of the big support structures you've (maybe subconciously) believed in all your life and then you really have opened up Pandora's Box.

We can see it already. Extremism (not just political but, exacerbaed by social media, the need to take up extreme positions, just to be heard), violence, self-centredness rather than 'collective-centredness' (for want of a better term.

Where this ends, I have no idea and you may say this is an over-reaction and I'm wrong and you may be right (in the interests of the balance and moderation I've been hinting at as 'the answer' throughout this, well, it's an essay now really isn't it?)

But if I'm thinking this, how many others are too?
Report Baphornet • January 16, 2019 10:53 AM GMT
like i uttered. & what you have correctly distended "What's the point" If we were French, there would be anarchy on the streets this morning. We are not; & we have to listen to the exact same MM that have been telling us for months that if May loses her 'baby' vote by "Around a 100" her position would be untelable & indefinable. She was vanquished by 230 votes & the MM are gobsmacked she's not resigned. Why? she has proven all along to be Narcissus's long lost sister, why didn't they see this coming? I never heard one single report or statement asking "what if" Did they all think she would fall on her sword? Or were they scared to ask the question? The latter for me, i am really disquieted & perturbed at the lack of venom she receives. I live in a world where a club is called a club, & yet the peoples only real chance to question the status quo is wasted on a MM that venerates a despot like May & crucifies a man who has the audacity to touch a womans leg. The most important vote in my, or anyone elses on heres lifetime    & which produces the largest vote shellacing in the history of a sitting government & what's she doing today? Pacing bags? well yes, but Flying to Brussels with them. I repeat; what is the point

I think we can assume that Corbyn's vote of no confidence will fail tonight in which case May will have won 3 votes of confidence of different sorts in the course of a month or so. Not sure what that says myself but Theresa will feel it justifies her carrying on.
Report SontaranStratagem • January 16, 2019 11:00 AM GMT
A loss of 230 is no longer considered a loss at this point in time, its just a bump in the road

A loss of 350 wouldn't have made a slight bit of difference either, they've made it all about the backstop and if she gets that from the EU she'll get a deal through

And it just goes to show what a show it all is, May with no mandate, no majority, can't get sod all through parliament, yet survives confidence votes left and right

Its a joke
Report SontaranStratagem • January 16, 2019 11:02 AM GMT
She wins the confidence vote by about 50 tonight, which will confirm she's not got a pot to p*** in when it comes to having a majority in the voting booth

But she along with the MSM will hail it as a massive boost to her credibility
Report SontaranStratagem • January 16, 2019 11:07 AM GMT
She should actually lose the vote tonight

There more against her than with her at this stage, 650 votes?

So she should be losing with a 400-250 vote split (if that is how the voting works?)

Yet she'll win 350-300 and its like where have those votes that were against her last night gone

A 50 vote win should mean she is forced out but wont be
Report salmon spray • January 16, 2019 11:11 AM GMT
It'll be more like 20. I think all the Tories will vote for her plus the DUP but everybody else will vote no confidence. The only thing May MIGHT be able to get through the Commons is something like Norway which much of the Labour Party and possibly the SNP and Lib Dems would settle for ( assuming the EU would which can't be taken for granted ) but the ERG plus would split the Tory Party on that which is why May won't talk to Corbyn.

Fwiw, I think Labour would win a General Election and the tory MP's with their vote of confidence tonight believe the same. Voters will not forgive this governments shambles of a Brexit over the last couple of years and she is only in now thanks to the DUP after thinking she would win easy last time. I HATED var during the world cup and had many rants about it on the FB forum, for me it ruined the world cup and especially the betting. The amount of ridiculous soft penalties any time ball played man (arm) in the box and so on, even thinking about it makes me angry.

Caroline Flint was on BBC 2 late last night and what a breath of Fresh Air she was. What an intelligent sensible woman.
It reminded me that there are still people in Labour that aren't useless, just none of them would be (or want to be) in a shadow cabinet with a communist POS like Corbyn.

JC in love with the still fancieable Ms Flint.
Incidentally if Moggy and co were consistent and voted no confidence they wouldn't bring down the govt, just May. Under Cameron's legislation they could just find another leader. But they can't of course.
