But they do fantastic offers on meaty stuff eg pork, beef, lamb and duck. And chocolates eg Lindt Continental 428g - just a fiver.

Really, tell me more

Wait for their regular 33%/40& offer on the meaty stuff; the present chocolate offer is outstanding if not sold put (yet) - try online, if so.

I used to be a loyal supporter of my local Tesco extra until Leahy and his prodigies left - their replacements were sh1te; stock availability was atrocious especially those of offer. And complaints to head office were fobbed off with a ÂŁ5 Tesco credit card each time or discounts codes to be used online. The common excuses were store concerned was stocking (over 4 months?) and no demand for certain product eg wild red salmon despite another 2 miles further had them in abundance.

Now, I do not bother unless really absolutely necessary, but their car parking facility is good though - not much else.

Morrisons are the finest of all UK supermarkets for my money.

Oh no! Waitrose and Sainsbury any time, any day; products better quality, fresher and last longer. However, location plays a significant part too.

Went to Sainsburys yesterday and noticed half the things I bought had gone up in price. Went to Morrisons- it was generally the same price if not a little more expensive than Sainsburys, and the shopping experience was worse.

Tescos are a mere shadow of their former selves. They always had more offers than other supermarkets & did lots of half-price sales of joints of meat etc. Now, if they ever give a decent offer it's usually on curry sauce or bathroom products. Coincidence? An awful shopping trip as well

We have Sainsbury's, ASDA, a huge Tesco's, Lidl and now a Morrisons all within spitting distance... and I've used all but Lidl so far.

Tesco... void of decent offers but being so big they have a huge range. I doubt you would not find what you're looking for.
Sainsbury's... many offers on a regular basis but agree with previous comments where others are beginning to reduce, Sainsbury's are going up and their home deliveries are not as fresh as one would hope
ASDA... a small shop by comparison and it shows. Always out of stock and when it is stocked it has limited items. Had to stop using them, waste of time as I never got all I wanted
Morrisons... I'm becoming more impressed with them by the shop. Good value, well stocked and parking both on the level and underground. It is likely to become my shop of choice when my Sainsbury's delivery subscription ends (Feb)

My local is the Tesco extra in Sutton, Surrey, and I've shopped there since the 1st day it opened about 15/20 yrs ago. I complained to head office - after being fobbed off in-store - about the lack of availability of products in-store that were available online; the reply I got from a customer service advisor was "the store was doing a stock take",

And I replied immediately "for the past 3/4 months?",...I'd been shopping there since it opened. How long had you been a customer service advisor with Tesco? There was no reply from the git! Instead, an apologetic lady replied and asked if I'd like to take part in a phone- conference concerning "customer service", and she'd send me a ÂŁ5 Tesco credit card as a gesture of goodwill - I never knew the card existed. Of course, I turned down her offer - why would I? Just get the appropriate people in - not monkeys. Anyway, she sent me the credit card.

On another occasion (in-store) I could not get the same product for long periods - when asked the manager said.."sorry, if it was not there it probably had sold out" - he did not even go to look for it which I'd hope he'd do.

Then one day I spotted a big boss chatting to him on a store visit; I butted in and asked the same question (again), and I got the same answer. However, this time I said...for the last 3/4 weeks this product (roasted chicken thighs) had not been on the shelve. Immediately, he excused himself from his big boss, and escorted to the department concerned to ask why the product had not been available.

Roasted chicken thighs have been available ever since - the guy at the counter was just plain lazy to cook more when they were gone. Pay peanuts, get monkeys and get rid of the dead-wood, it's bad for business!

The irony is I no longer buy the product from Tesco (Sainsbury's are much tastier). Now, I shop at Lidl for the raw equivalent, and I do not shop at Tesco anymore unless it's absolutely necessary; I used to average about ÂŁ400 per month with them.

has anyone noticed the explosion of Irish beef hitting the aisles? (Tesco by far the worst) Now excuse my scepticism; but would this be down to cheap meat, or a real concern for the Irish beef industry?
Report trilby22 January 12, 2019 12:28 PM GMT
Just a few miles down the road from me.  Absolute top of the pops in every department, imo.

I'll have a look tomorrow, 'Baphornet' - not beef fan; I need some kikat for a friend's daughter and crisps which are on specials. And boneless shoulder of lamb and duck breast too, if they are too. Otherwise, there are many other alternatives nearby.

you will be lucky to find a British beef joint, impossible

As I don't drive anymore I always use my local Morrisons as it's a 5 min walk. I wouldn't know if it's the cheapest, but the staff are top class.

The fresh fruit leaves a lot to be desired though and doesn't last very long,so we shop accordingly.

Always seem great for drinks offers which help.

"Mysupermarket.co.uk" will tell you what's on offer each week (wednesday) and where. It's exceptionally good for planning ahead and/or stocking up; used with discount vouchers strategically could double-saved enormously in-store or online.
Report Baphornet January 12, 2019 6:24 PM GMT
bigmo; Morrisons to their credit, do a lot of British beef products
