it's couple from Belfast. Never know why people go public.
Report bigmo • January 3, 2019 9:12 PM GMT
Idiots for doing so.

The wife asked, "If we win 10 million on the Lottery, what will we do about about the begging letters"?

"We`ll keep sending them out", I replied.

I don't play the lottery so this scenario would never come up for me. Can anyone tell me what is the upside of going public? Is it just an ego thing?
Report mouse muldoon • January 3, 2019 10:26 PM GMT
I've been pubic for 31 years.

I know two lottery winners when I lived in Spain, one was my neighbour. £5.8 million and £2.8 million. Both of them done the lot and are completely potless now.Cry
Report Just Checking • January 3, 2019 11:13 PM GMT
5.8 million is easily enough to set you for life if you are sensible, at any age. 1 million isn't so much these days, if you are 25 or something.

I wouldn't go public, feck that.
Report mouse muldoon • January 3, 2019 11:13 PM GMT
Done it punting?

Yes, punting, bad business decisions, charlie and hookers mate. I'm still mates with him. When I left Spain to look after my Mum I had to give him a grand to keep him going, absolutely pathetic.

Report The Leopard • January 3, 2019 11:47 PM GMT
Damn those hookers !

Ok, if no one else is going to say it, I will.

At least he didn't waste all of it.

I'm convinced Camelot somehow coerce people into going public, maybe telling them they can get the payment through quicker or they'll got more support/protection idk.

Did it for the first couple of years then couldn't be bothered, then about a couple of years ago there was a massive euro millions jackpot advertised and find myself in the local newsagent and bought s few tickets and said to the newsagent what am I doing this for as no way would I want to win that amount-ridiculous! never bothered since and the shame is most of the money probably comes from the part of society who can't afford it,should never have happened imo.

Greed got the better of what could have been a great idea.

Greed on the part of the organisers and the public.
Report ribero1 • January 4, 2019 9:59 AM GMT
Yes fair point Jack,we had a winner (about 6 million) move into the village,he'd been a steward at Knaresborough conservative club near Harrogate so liked a drink and was known as sixballs in the village pub,not a bad bloke at all, liked a bet,a **** and plenty of booze,he evenyually decided to move and put the house up for sale for 1 million (I'm good mates with the estate agent)he got offered 900 turned it down and sent it to auction with no reserve,it fetched 700,silly bugger said "well it only cost me a quid!"
They then went and took a pub in a nearby village where he enraged locals by having the racing on all day in the pub!
He also had a place abroad and unfortunately had a big heart attack and died in his early sixties.

Anyone have their contact details, as just composing a harrowing letter?
Report Jack Hacksaw • January 4, 2019 11:57 AM GMT
Mine's going to the winners c/o Moira, Co. Down.

Pretty sure it will get there.

Mind you, with all the bad luck me and my family have had, it might not.

Cool
Report impossible123 • January 4, 2019 8:45 PM GMT
They seemed like a nice grounded couple; families and close friends would be getting a helping hand which is noble, thoughtful and caring. Hope they'll keep some for themselves for the rainy times eg illness, old age, etc. And good luck to them!
Report breadnbutter • January 5, 2019 12:25 AM GMT
upside is 10% interest if you use the winners fund/acc plus free legal ,financial  and lifestyle advice for life , that’s what swings it ,and if it’s a few million then it’s quite a thing but at over 100 million one would think keeping under the radar would be more important .Seem like decent sorts so best of luck to emm .
Report geoff m • January 5, 2019 9:15 AM GMT
What a great couple.Have you thought about personal security. She replies "ive not met anybody i wouldnt take down myself"
Good luck to em.

with 115 million, I don't think anyone is interested in freebiesLaugh

that's not the reason, they don't need free anything and the money itself will generate huge interest anyway, giving the fact the fact they're intent on giving so much away they're not greedy for money.

Lottery man on tv this morning was saying that it's too much money to hide so they might as well go public, which is ridiculous because thousands knowing is one thing, millions knowing is another.

Camelot love it when people go public, gives them great free publicity, they would be coercing them no doubt.
