Baxters soup is gruel in a tin
By:
with a bit of cobby puke to thicken it up
By:
There used to be a quite solid condensed soup sold in tins. Makes absolute sense only shipping half the weight tbf.
By:
Baxters - can't be true it's made from the stuff that gets swept up at Heinz?

By:
Don't understand why anyone buys "Baxters" as it is tasteless and watery!
One exception is "French Fried Onion", otherwise forget it..imo! |
By:
We make our own. £50 for a soup maker (which also juices...get me!) was dosh well spent.
Good fun coming up with various concoctions. |
By:
I like Baxters Carrot & Butterbean and their Mediterranean Tomato.
By:
I remember Campbells condensed soup, can't think of any other makers.

Marks and Spencers do a truly fantastic chicken and vegetable soup. The kind you’d expect in a decent restaurant. Really good.

I make most of my own soups but......Oxtail soup is still the best .
By:
I think the main market is the elderly that are on their own; bread dunked in them is tasty if one does not mind the high salt content.

Are Baxter's still in Fochabers? Ailk.ye, they are. Used to drive by their gaff a couple times a week when I lived Oop North. http://www.baxters.com/ Great traditional Scottish soup … at least they were.
Campbells another with their condensed. Mum used to add half a can of water and half a can of milk. I make my own now. Got a freezer full of all sorts! Homegrown produce, of course ![]() |

Ailk.te? Wtf? Aye!
By:
Oxtail rocks but it's much more expensive these days than when I were a lad and Mum made it.

I like lentil soup but it's overpriced for what it is imho. I resent paying about a quid for it.
LIDL used to sell good stuff at half the price like 40p a tin which is much more reasonable but they (or at least my branch) stopped selling it :( Another reason I don't go there much anymore.. I'd consider lentil soup a basic thing and they don't stock it. You can use lentil soup as a base for other things, it's great and very healthy. |

I really don't think you get the beauty of all this man.
Ok I'll try again. We SOW the lentil seed. Nature GROWS the lentil seed. And then we EAT the lentil seed. |

Really heavy

I like the hurdy gurdy mushroom soup man.

Favourite episode of the young ones?? |

It might be that one? The one where he hits neil with a cricket bat and cries "I've killed a hippy!".
Or of course the uni challenge one, that's comedy legend. Scumbag college wasn't it? Trilby no doubt likes the one where MOTORHEAD appear and play .. bomber was it? |
By:

I might've said before, Bomber was inspired by a book by Len Deighton, it's a great book, he did another called Fighter I keep meaing to read.

I didn't know that. I'll look it up. Wilbur Smith was my main author before the internet came along.

I did the tour of the Baxter soup factory.........does that make me sad ?
By:
I've done the dublin guinness tour. Got some crappy little plastic ornament with guiness in it called "a drop of the black stuff" or something :)

Talking of sad
2 tins of tomatoes 1 tin baked beans 1 tin of carrots 6 small pickled onions 1/2pint veg stock Blitz the the lot in food processor and heat up. Enjoy ![]() |

By:
Pickled onions always makes me think of new year and my parents putting them out with little cubes of cheese and sticks to eat them with.

The delicate earthy overtones of the green lentils combine effortlessly with the sweetness of succulent tomatoes. A blend of specially selected herbs & spices finish this soup off perfectly.
Whoever composed that description, should be strapped to whoever composed "The Joy Of Movement" and dropped from a great height, into a vat of "Green Lentil and Tomato Soup"! |
By:
To be fair I'd prefer specially selected herbs and spices to "Some random herbs and spices were decided upon for a laugh when pissed up at the christmas party".

Fochabers?
No it's TRUE I did ![]() |
