Like him or loathe him you have to admire him. From humble beginnings to where he is now is remarkable. From living in a council flat in Hackney, using his £100 savings to start a business one thing he is not is stupid. His performances on Apprentice are just that.

I'm not a billionaire but I respect those who have made it.
Having said that I can't think of an "amstrad" product I ever bought! :)

But he's a good bell-weather imho, of business. I'm sure they've said
that they fear a corbyn government FAR more than Brexit, and that makes
sense.

In a wierd way brexit THEN Corbyn is the worst possible scenario for
people in this country who are successful, they are locked in THEN the
theft and the state sponsored attacks begin.

It's no wonder Corbyn and his soviet friends actually want Brexit, it's
a simple fact they couldn't start their year zero communist **** while
part of the EU.... The only reason they are pretending to be against
Brexit is to keep the support of gullible student types etc...

Lets just get his beginnings straight -/
The Jewish community support each other 100%
They buy from each other , deals are made in the Synagogue all the time..
This one would go ..
Alan’s  started up a small business ,see you support him ,
buy a few items off him get him going ..
yes, no problems ..
With each member tossing in a loose grand or so
This £100, would soon be £100k .,
If we could  ALL get that kind of back up support starting off
Then we could all be pretty comfortably off pretty quickly !!
Unless youve worked with the Jewish “club” you wont realise
howmuch they help a new “member” taking his first steps in business.
Be it a Solicitor, Jewel merchant or Trader .
Never has the term-  “ Born with a silver spoon in his mouth “ been more apt !!
Report Dr Crippen • December 16, 2018 10:59 AM GMT
scissors, have you got specific evidence that happened in the case of Sugar?

If it were that easy they'd all be high fliers in business.
Report Slicer • December 16, 2018 8:46 PM GMT
Scissors, I only had to get as far as your 2nd line. The Jewish community certainly do not support each other 100 percent. I had a London residence for some time in a Jewish area and I know that I am correct. However, I would point out that you have made a valid point about today's society possibly without realising it. When the Jews arrived in the UK escaping from Europe in the 1930s, they either helped each other and/or worked very hard to earn enough to live without income support or other benefits. When the Hindus got kicked out of Africa in the 1970s/80s, they helped each other and/or worked very hard to earn enough to live with MINIMAL benefits. But today, these people arriving on boats-mainly adherents of the Religion of Peace- land on the beach, are spirited away for medical treatment, given places to live and food. These people are using up resources that the indigenous UK homeless should be given.

I heard on LBC this morning a do gooder from some local charity in Kent. It make me nauseous. These boat people are landing in the UK illegally. Therefore they are criminals. And how are they punished? With food, healthcare and places to live. I would not rescue them, but let them drown. The word would soon get back that the 3 grand they pay the people smugglers is wasted and that the UK is no easy pushover. It would soon stop. How would you like the last bed in your local hospital taken up by one of these criminals when your nearest and dearest needs it. Cue all the human rights Guardian readers!

When the Jews arrived in the UK escaping from Europe in the 1930s, they either helped each other and/or worked very hard to earn enough to live without income support or other benefits.

I would suggest that most of the Jews in the UK today are descended from those that arrived between 1880 and 1900 fleeing Russia but the same would have been true then.
Report Slicer • December 16, 2018 9:07 PM GMT
I was referring to the Jews who arrived in the 1930s because it is more recent. I did not mean that ALL Jews came at that time. In fact Jews can be traced back to William the Conqueror. I bet they didn't live on benefits! Grin
Report conditor • December 16, 2018 9:09 PM GMT
As posted the wizard of oz was a good film
Report i_agree_with_nick • December 16, 2018 9:22 PM GMT
Actually, around 100,000 Jews came here in the 1930s - I didn't think it was that many.

About 140,000 arrived in the late 19th century.  Before 1880 the Jewish population of the UK was around 46,000.

The first Jews did arrive in Britain with William the Conqueror but were expelled in 1290. They were not permitted to return until the 1650s.

I read his biography some years ago and iirc, his early childhood years were in Stepney. The family later moved to a council flat in Hackney (possibly Dalston?) which AMS said was luxurious compared to Stepney.

I think he moved out to north east London in his early 20s.

He said he didn't receive a lot of love from his parents which is "maybe why I'm the way I am."

However, I seem to recall that his father helped him out to buy a car or a van when he said it would help him with his business.

All in all, I like the guy.
