Labour should be miles ahead in the polls given the shambolic government however they are due to Corbyn, McDonnell and Abbott at the helm they are not. Only kept in place by the party membership. If May loses tonight there is a large amount of support for Boris Johnson amongst party members. He is as divisive within the Conservative party and probably the public at large as Corbyn is within Labour and again the public at large.

Maybe Labour aren't miles ahead because of non-stop pushing through the media and their stories and sound bites telling everyone Labour are unelectable.
Maybe the millions spent on misinformation, lies and negative publicity have made Labour more unelectable than they really are.

Despite what we see on this forum most of press is sensationally anti-corbyn.
I would agree with you though, that Abbott is definitely costing Labour a lot of support.

Have to agree with Mikael too. May is possibly the weakest PM ever but Johnson wouldn't be good, he lies about as much as Trump and what is needed is more honesty, not less.

Think the only reason Corbyn got close the last election was the British people feel sorry for an underdog. So thought might as well vote for him as he has no chance. This country will never vote in a far left government.

Conservatives are finnish.

Labour have been failing because the party leader who was clearly a brexit man but now when the chance of his party leading the country he was silent on the subject, which confuses most avid followers and the voters on the sidelines.
Report Dotchinite December 12, 2018 9:35 PM GMT
Who couldnt love a party that wants to allow British workers to strike in sympathy with anyone else in the entire world.

Of course no British workers would want to/ could afford to but the fact that McDonnell thinks its a remotely sane idea tells you all you need to know.
Report STUDYFORM December 12, 2018 9:53 PM GMT
And that....
Is the sort of news/sound bite that keeps them unelectable.

This is story which in reality is akin to not buying grapes from South Africa during apsrtheid, but it's made into yet another big reason why Labour would be bad.
Report Dotchinite December 12, 2018 9:55 PM GMT
Are you saying McDonnell hasnt put this forward?
Report STUDYFORM December 12, 2018 10:06 PM GMT
Nope.
I'm saying it's blown out of proportion.

The story associates with a refusal by workers to build some engines for Pinochet's government in Chile, because of human rights abuses. Because until not very long ago, it was a thing that was allowable.
As far as I can ascertain it has never been done otherwise, despite it being a right of workers (Workers btw, being a vast majority of voters and the public generally, and not some sort of enemy), it's never really happened to any great extent.

However it is put out there, like "the country will be held to ransom" by some militants who want to go on strike and bring the country to its knees out of support for French dustmen, or something.

McDonnell is the Shadow Chancellor and the power behind Corbyn. I think the fact he has ludicrous ideas such as this rather than coming up with sensible policies is big news considering who he is.

I said above in practice no workforce is likely ever to strike because of a dispute in some far off country thats not the point.

The point is simple. The Labour leadership have crackpot ideas and the media are right to publicize them. Corbyns people continually whinge about the media and his fans seem to ignore that in most cases the stories are actually true.

If he behaved in a credible and decent manner there wouldnt be such stories to report.
Report anxious December 12, 2018 10:58 PM GMT
Nearly 12 million voted for him last June but all you seem to do is criticise him  , one story and you pounce on it yet the Spivs wreck the country with industrial vandalism , austerity , trickle down etc and you turn a blind eye
Report Dotchinite December 12, 2018 11:01 PM GMT
Try discussing the facts of the story rather than just crying about people having different views to you.

Just once. Go for it - and try posting a reply without the word spiv in it. Im sure you can do it.

They (the media) who are paid to do so, will ALWAYS find stories to write or make up, or ignore, no matter how credible and decent they are.

The fact is, that a succession of bad governments for the last 40 years or so, working in roughly the same way, have to keep a different type of opposition at bay, so these "stories" will always appear.

Whether it's about bowing or not bowing (either way he'd have been wrong), wearing a tie, anti-Semitism although there were complaints against the Tories, which didn't make the news.
https://www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-antisemitism-political-parties

You will see non-stop negative press about Corbyn because it's how the current system works. So much so, that millions of people think him "unelectable", even though he hasn't been in power. He's also only ever claimed genuine and minimal expenses, but this sort of stuff doesn't make the news, does it?

Now, I don't know if Labour would be any good for us or not. But we have no way of knowing, as there has been only one type of government for so long.
My own feeling is that it couldn't be much worse than now. Also how bad do the Tories need to be?

Anyway, if Labour are as bad as is projected, they'd only last one term, and not be back for a generation, so everyone should welcome them.
Report anxious December 12, 2018 11:20 PM GMT
Dot you have picked a story about workers supporting other workers in another country whats so strange about that , Capitalists and bosses exploit workers every day in many countries
Report Dotchinite December 12, 2018 11:27 PM GMT
Supporting them is perfectly reasonable. Going on strike and damaging our economy when the issues involved would be beyond our control is crazy. It wouldnt happen anyway but it tells you a lot about Mac.
Do you honestly believe its the sort of thing a potential Chancellor should be promoting especially one who has a credibilty problem.
Report anxious December 12, 2018 11:31 PM GMT
There are bosses and workers yes , most bosses want to pay their staff the lowest possible wage in order to gather more profit , yes i think thats the way it works , the main power a worker has especially in a Union is to withdraw his labour

Sure Labour hav made some monumental **** ups in the meantime but thank fook for the NHS  that "the establishment" has tried for 70 yrs plus to undermine ever since .....

Tories are what they are..... end of ..... out for themselves at all costs........ need some evidence......

country was in meltdown after Cameron was outta touch wiv the people and lost a bet he cudnt lose - In comes May - a remainer - after Gove- a brexiteer - stuck knife in his fellow brexiteer Boris - and then the 2 of em came up wiv this
