Countries agreed to take their fair share of migrants from Syria including England.

Some come the long route because they have family in Britain

Some come to Britain as they can speak English and not other language so settling in is easier.

Some would rather not stop in the first safe country when they are unwelcome to immigrants, as we saw with the great migration wave in 2015 in places like Hungary.

Some prefer Britain because of the reputation is has with welcomeing migrants as opposed to other one's.

Some come to Britain because the standard of living and opportunity is greater than many others.

Some come because there is already a substantial Syrian community in certain areas.

I don't propose an open door policy, but these isolated scare stories of migrants distort reality, most migrants just want a better life.

I know that's hard for you to belive but that's the way it is.

Not only is there no sympathy for the poor kid, or his poor family, who would rather be at home in a country not bombed to pieces, having been forced to leave because of war, seeing suffering and death we cannot even imagine. But there is the constant "blame" of the media for having the temerity to report on the story.

Some of you are need to have a word with yourselves, you've let your obsession get the better of your reasoning and your humanity.

Certainly an obsession on my part SF I'm merely pointing out it's bullying nothing more nothing less. Very sadly kids of all colour get bullied in schools all around the country so why the knee-jerk reaction. It's like baby P poor little tots grave a shrine, some travelling miles to leave a teddy bear etc ! Again desperately sad but again due to the media spotlight people go overboard when sad to say at least one or two kids a week die due to violence and neglect. Jonathan Ross and Russel Brand over the Andrew Sachs story, two actual complaints during the programme and then the media backlash 10,000 people outraged Crazy as a country we are easily led !

You have no idea what it must be like to be a refugee moisok.
Your apparent fervent belief that all immigrants are criminals, paedos or terrorists, has given you the non-stop ticket you possess to decry even the most unfortunate of people, who would almost certainly not have wanted to leave home, on nearly every thread, every day.

ufcdan, you're mixing chalk and cheese.
There is a difference between simple bullying and this. The poor fecker already has a broken wrist from bullying, he's alone and unwelcome, his sister gets some too, and he's a very long way from home. Just because you were bullied in 1970's Glasgow doesn't justify this sort of thing.

Nor should it take a back seat in the news because other (if there are any) stories aren't being covered.

The BBC and papers don't have the agenda. You do.

If you can't - between you -  understand why we "let any in", then that says far more about you than the media says about them.
I am proud to disagree with you.

I can't see anyone not sympathising with that but that is not what is being discussed here, its the fact that the media have picked on this particular situation and the public have donated £135k.

I don't begrudge them it at all, just making the case that these were two white working class parents who were being seen to be hard done by the professional, middle class medics and authorities - and the media tried to drum up support for them.

Of course the actual truth was the poor child was brain dead and had zero chance of any chance of a quality of life.

All forms of bullying is bad especially on kids by their own parents and at school; it happens at work too, and socially. Notwithstanding, it is never a bad thing for any media to bring this into the attention of the public - deemed politically correct or not; it is informative and educational. And any donation towards the victim is appreciated by the victim and those concerned eg associated entities/societies, and ought not to be discouraged, I firmly believe, if donation is not a prerequisite or forced upon them - donors must have the right to choose, and must not be dictated or influenced by opinions elsewhere.

Bullying of children and of any kind is cruel and unjustified, and no reason/excuse must be used for it happening.

Unfortunately the media attention, exaggerations and subsequent furore has resulted in a person who hasn't even appeared in court/youth justice system and his family having to be moved to a secure location by police due to the death threats he has received after people have been breaking the law by naming him and posting his address online.

Congratulations to our wonderful media.

Report Shrewd_dude • November 30, 2018 2:03 PM GMT
I never said it was there fault. They have clearly went beyond simply reporting on the facts though and created a hysteria surrounding the case by making it a race issue and using emotive phrases like "torture" and "waterboarding" when the person hasn't even been prosecuted. Clearly there is more to this story to discuss than simply a case of bullying.

Totally agree about personal responsibility. Again though it's relevant to the story given many in the media and elsewhere are trying to suggest Robinson is partially responsible for the bullying because the bully posted about him on facebook.

To be honest I haven't paid a great deal of attention to the story. Saw the video, felt the usual human response of pity and anger but haven't trailed it. Just the usual amusement and dismay at some people being outraged by the coverage.
It seems very highly likely there's a racial element behind it. However, in my experience the bully is probably just a massive pr!ck and the fact that the lad is from somewhere else is merely just an excuse. He'd probably still be a bully if he'd never seen a TR video, he'd just bully some other poor innocent kid. Needs to be straightened out as it's odds on he's a wife beater in years to come otherwise.

The police have had to continually warn the media not to post videos of the incident as proceedings have been active for weeks. Were you similarly amused and dismayed when people were outraged at Tommy Robinson potentially prejudicing criminal proceedings?

It seems very highly likely there's a racial element behind it.

Based on what? He doesn't appear to have been charged with any racial aggravation yet according to the police.
