MMAD is absolute garbage as you say, but his Street Auction thing was even worse. Utterly cringeworthy, one of the worst programmes ever.

yes a warm welcome back to The Duke.

I agree with all the above. However the show that makes me really angry is the Antiques Roadtrip where the participants are given ridiculous unrealistic discounts which would never be given to the public. AND THE PROS STILL LOSE LOADS AT AUCTION. My information is that the antiques trade has gone south and it's getting harder for the trade to make money. I know of several shops on the south coast that have closed down.  The Duke's prog is really a glorified game show.

not surprised cant understand why antique shops let the celebs them in give them 75% off and there still over valued who in their right mind would now pay anywhere near the tkt price, think they are only there for wealthy americans, tourists,, theres an upmarket shop at the bottom of the high street in hawes which even to a novice like me ridiculously  high prices, and he,s always in the local rags complaining about people coming in looking around with no intention of buying, I,m one LaughLaugh

Combat Dealers is another good one, very educational.

Unless it's real top notch antiques the bottom has fallen out of the market. I had a go over the summer, bought a few decent bits but probably made a grand over the summer if I was lucky.

Agree the show is awful.

I do like Combat Dealers as love the WW2 bits and pieces but the "action" bits kind of annoy me a bit as often being a bit fake?

Like do they REALLY have access to full military grade high velocity anti tank shells that they are allowed to fire at a bit of metal with nothing behind it but a hedge, that when it hits causes an explosion like something out of the A Team?

I'm inclined to think .. no!

Shows such as Antiques Road Trip and Bargain Hunt are a great gig for the experts, travelling around the country on somebody else's dollar. I often wonder how many items they buy for themselves off camera.

Answer to that is easy, they cherry pick a nice living. My uncle is best mates with one of the guys on the dickenson real deal show, and its basically a license to print money, queue's of people wanting to sell and you ain't got to do any legwork.

I watch antiques road trip but generally only pay attention if Christina is on. LoveLoveLove

The show I HATE is that stupid "up cycling" show. Where she gets crap going to a dump, spends a fortune on doing it up, (not including her time), then sells it on to people that make me think of the Harry Enfield "I Saw You Coming" shopWink

There was one that really annoyed me the other week, some old guy was about to skip an ORIGINAL beautiful old oil painting, as the frame was a little damaged (anyone with 10% DIY skills could fix it) and his family didn't like it and he had downsized. I mean he was literally going to throw it in the dump, an original, not a print.

Not sell it to a second hand dealer, or a charity shop. Anyway, they valued it and auctioned it and it went for a very very tidy sum (can't remember details decent 3 figures and possibly 4 figures).

But who would do that????
