The beauty of tough prison regimes is that it puts so many potential criminals off.
Then you don't need so many police and it's harder to get away with crime as well. The thing is it doesn't happen overnight. The crime wave we're experiencing now is a result of decades of soft penalties, with the perception that in most cases you'll get away with it anyway due to the volume of crime. It's a long way back and we're still going downhill. |

I've seen documentaries on Russian prisons on youtube in the last few years, think I've seen the one that fattie mentions, black dolphin, it's really depressing just watching it, actually being a prisoner in these harsh, remote places doesn't bare thinking about.
Where this prison is in Siberia, it takes about 8 hours to drive to the nearest town/city and is in forest area the size of Finland, if you escape which is practically impossible, you're escaping to nowhere. Rooms in Solitary confinement are 5 square meters. I do remember however, prisoners when they are allowed visitors, which is rare given it's remoteness, were allowed to 'entertain' - one prison had a penpal fan who then was allowed to stay the night and ended up having 2 of his kids - even though he's a lifer, bizarre. In some places in the world, prisoners are all lumped into one small room with no beds, an actual prison not a room. Even in places like Turkey. |

South American prisons feature on Best Gore a lot. Horrendous places. Saw one chap have his arm broken and then his arm is shaken in order to misalign the bones. Of course you get the usual beheadings whenever a riot takes place. Rapists (alleged) often have to confess their guilt and are then hanged. The prisoners are armed. The guards are there just to ensure no one leaves.
