Chancellor Merkel calls for Europe to "take our fate fully into our own hands" in defence matters, and says there is a need to develop a "real true European army".

She also said that mistakes were made with migration policy:

On migration, she says the EU was "not adequately prepared" for the number of arrivals, but that Europe can "learn from the past".

You can't make this sh!t up...........

You actually couldn't, she needs a European army to defend against the non European army which she put among us.

Or to defend the EU from those dastardly populists..
Report Baphornet November 13, 2018 5:18 PM GMT
she could also just have an immigrant only army and kill two birds with one stone, so to speak

Well countries that want to cede from Der Union or pass budgets it doesn't agree with god forbid vote for parties that believe in policies contrary to the EU, they must be controlled somehow.. The name European Union is getting a bad press these days, time for another name change.

European Reich has a ring to it. Ahh but that has European in it. Well it's controlled from the centre, France and Germany.

How about Central Powers Reich?

So on migration she still doesn't think it was a bad idea throwing the door open to every chancer liar fraudster sex pest and jerhadi from every corner south or east of Naples, just not enough preparation for them? WAC that woman is.

Jackboot Merkel, trying to goosestep her way into history.

Remember the set to Nick Clegg had with Farage when Farage said an EU army was the plan.

Clegg denied that an EU army was a even a possibility. What a berk Clegg turned out to be.

TheBaron - I'm not a royalist but I would die for my Queen. I didn't vote for May but I would die for my PM.

I'd even die for you.

"The EU was not adequately prepared for the number of arrivals"  shure wasn't she giving all and sundry the welcome red carpet.

She with that attitude then was imo directly responsible for brexit, she should in a fair world be compensating the UK,not trying to bleed them.

I thought merkel's creation of the self inflicted "migrant crisis" was rewarded at the German votes recently? Oh wait she was "rewarded"! Excited.

She'll be hated for decades and rightly so.
Report Injera November 13, 2018 6:24 PM GMT
Baron - so who/what would you fight for. Your family, property, pet, friend, neighbourhood?

As you'll know patriotism starts very locally and then expands. It expands to counties, countries, to a group of Allies on an international stage.

All people are patriots of a kind. Just depends on how each person defines it.

I bet if I burst through your beech hedge uninvited you'd defend your loved ones to the death.
Report TheBaron November 13, 2018 6:32 PM GMT
People don't fight for their country they fight for

1. Themselves
2. Family
3. Friends

Anything else like country etc comes way down the list....unless you're a bit gullible which is what those in power love to exploit..

Having a laugh fxxking Germans have never contributed fully to NATO and now they want a European army Laugh they'll need to step up their defence spending from the piddling 1.4 of their GDP. Trust me stick with who we can rely on the Americans, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Even the Europeans better watch out if they think this country would go to war under Jeremy Plain

Dear me are you gloryfying it again dan , i watched a programme last night on WW1 where soldiers who had developed PTSD had been shot for alleged cowardice when in fact they were suffering from combat stress formerly known as shell shock , even recent conflicts guys who suffered from PTSD  had been shunned by the army

Report ufcdan November 13, 2018 7:22 PM GMT
Not glorifying war at all anxious as someone who has served in the military I can tell you the vast majority in the forces would never want to see a war. As for the WW1 soldiers I said to my good lady how sorry I felt for those poor lads given that we have a better understanding of PTSD today, there was nothing for them. I will add mate and I do think of you as a mate and we have a jolly up and a wind up this is one issue that I don't take lightly so please no more I glorify war. My son currently serves in the United States Marine Corp so not only for him but for every young man or woman who serves I hope they all never have to put into use what they have been trained for.

you want to read the warlike rhetoric also coming from barnierstchormer and  oberleutnant Tusk

to be used against recalcitrant members or others who will just simply not agree.

it is moving towards controlled europe  - well, even more controlled but much tighter with force to back it up

In general I refer to my last post but my position on our nuclear deterrent is if we are attacked we should use a capability to strike back. Bit like yer dad telling you if someone hits you hit em back
Report anxious November 13, 2018 7:27 PM GMT
Yes dan i accept what you have said , the programme i thought was  very upsetting though and the resources that the army and the government have to deal with this issue is pitiful , i know some lads who were in the forces and they ended up messed up the ptsd and were on drugs and boooze to deal with it

If there is to be a European Army which nation will the Major General come from? How do they intend to conscript from the youth. More crucially who do they expect to be the member states' mutual enemy in order to build up such a huge defensive system and even more crucially do they expect to start a war?

The EU already has has the three branches of government - legislative (Parliament), executive (the Commission) and judiciary (The Court of Justice). It has all the accoutrements of a state: ambassadors, a currency, central bank and monetary policy to name but a few, never mind fripperies like a flag and a national anthem. The word 'National' being entirely apt, since is there any doubt that this is shortly to become a Country in name as well as fact, with it's own army the final fact that seals the deal.

...with unelected types like Martin Selmayr and Jean Claude Junker at its epicentre.

Remainers never address this onward march, presenting their argument as a return to a status quo and Leavers as hankering after 'Old Empire' where in truth, the only empire being built is one with Brussels as Rome
