As Epimenides, a Cretan, said "All Cretans are liars".

Used to hear stories of darts players sh!tting themselves chugging down the ice water at events, bear in mind they would've been already on the pop though.

Chugging down water just makes us run the toilet more? which isn't re-hydrating us?

Foinavon- are you sure he was a Cretan and not a cretin?

It's a paradox, Dr Slicer, an ancient one at that.

I am aware of paradoxes regarding lying. Some are insoluble such as the one used in the I Mudd episode of Star Trek to eliminate the androids.

Technically for rehydration drink about 1/2L -1L over about 30-45 mins with electrolytes though sodium is most important for everyday use if you aren't eating much of it.

I am unaware of that episode Dr, I am not a Trekkie.

I think water is wonderful, especially after it has been used to marinate a few buds of Camellia sinensis.

I enjoyed a very interesting post dinner debate over the port and petit fours. The guests were very sophisticated and highly edumacated like wot I am. The subject of the discussion was what each participant considered their 3 favourite things in life and we had to back them up with debate. My 3 things in no particular order were air, water and blood. Interesting eh!!

btw- consuming 4 litres a day can be dangerous. Hope this helps!

Over the years I've seen allsorts of numbers what people forget is when you are putting excess liquid in you are flushing the electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium) and it's them together that keep you hydrated along with enough fluid, exercise has an effect through sweat mainly but you can replenish really quickly with half a teaspoon of sea salt and some water.
You can undo your good intentions by having too much,if you are eating well the electrolytes generally take care of themselves,if you aren't eating the body won't get the message to retain them so a saltwater drink isn't a bad idea in this circumstance.
At the moment I'm not eating so have been living on these types of drinks adding mag, sod, pot chloride but this isn't really necessary if you are eating regularly just plain water til you aren't thirsty and 1/2 teaspoon of Sea Salt if you are concerned.

Clear urine too says you've had enough water.

Urine should be light straw in colour.

Depends how thirsty you are.
Doesn't make any difference how quickly you drink it.

For years the "advertising" tenet which promoted keeping hydrated and drinking water constantly was put all over (mostly bottled) water providers blurb.
This has long been disproven as to having had any medical validity.

The 3L or 4L thing isn't necessary either. It was a sales ploy, not unlike the mattress makers who say you should change your mattress every 8 years!

As Slicer says 4L is too much, unless you've sweat loads.

All liquids count btw; Tea, coffee, squash, anything. As long as it's liquid.

I meant to say pints not litres study, yeah 4 litres is to much, you only need to keep yourself rehydrated not over hydrated

What salt is best for putting in water? I currently only have table salt and im assuming that's no good lol

DONT PUT SALT IN THE WATER without seeing your doc. Salt increases blood pressure!

What if blood pressure is perfect?

Regardless of what your blood pressure is, salt intake increases blood pressure. See your doc FIRST!!

Salt is very much dependent on what else you eat,for example it is sugar that regulates whether or not to hang on to Sodium so if you are on a ketogenic diet (just fats and protein) you need to eat more sodium and drink more water because your brain isn't telling your kidneys to hang on to it or the other electrolytes potassium and sodium.
Have also seen info showing the relationship between potassium and sodium showing you can intake and tolerate far more salt than is ever recommended if your potassium intake is sufficient.
Never be worried about adding a wee bit of Sea Salt to some water if you think you are dehydrated and as I mentioned earlier you've definitely had enough water when your body is clear, for most of the time we needn't worry it's normally after the extremes like excessive sweating, booze and dropping sugar from your diet you need it and you'll feel thirsty anyhow.
