At what point would the UK retaliate?
When America lets us. |
|
By:
Have you tried google?
At a guess, I would say 30 minutes. |
|
By:
Quicker than half an hour for sure. Moscow to London is only about 2,500 kilometres. I reckon an ICBM could travel that distance in about ten minutes.
|
|
By:
from google
Intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) are capable of travelling at top speeds of over four miles per second, meaning that they can dash across continents in mere minutes. Since they need around ten minutes to reach these terrifying speeds, a launch from Russia could theoretically reach the UK within 20 minutes. very scary. |

Yes, I was thinking Moscow to New York.

if they sailed the stealth sub up the thames it might take less than
20 mins from launch time to arrival. or perhaps from north sea, or atlantic. who would we retaliate against? we would need to know who fired it, and hopefully get it right... |

Do we realise that our new shiny trident submarines will have a total of 160 warheads , 40 for each submarine , just 1 warhead will have 8 times the power of the bomb that was dropped a Hiroshama in world war 2 , mankind will be destroyed

20 minutes roughly, you'll get a text from the government letting you know it's on its way and to take shelter, if it's SATAN 2 one of their latest ones it would wipe out London down to Horsham and all around and their avanguard nukes can travel 20 times speed of sound and cannot be shot down.

How long is a piece of string. They wouldn't come from Moscow of course. They could be from a cruise missile that came out of a sub just surfaced 20 miles offshore, they could be from an air launch from one of the long distances probing planes they used to launch all the time during the cold war and are still doing again. The ruskis are now also developing hypersonic missiles which increases danger as a first strike weapon and if you didn't have a Trident, the increased of risk of a trigger happy "defence" action by accident.
That's why you need something like trident and a continually at sea deterent. How long would it take to respond? Depends. If Corbyn was in power he'd be re-reading the words to socialist songs in Russian and digging out some old red flags. |

Slightly dated (1984) now but if you haven't seen it, look up the film 'Threads' - An eye-opener in its day and considered a realistic depiction. Based in Sheffield

At what point would the UK retaliate?
Theresa May straight after the first strike. Labour assemble the cabinet and ask John McDonnel, Daiane Abbott and Dawn Butler what they think then Jermey will pen a strongly worded letter............dont panic My Mannering, don't panic |

It`s good to know that if we ordinary people get wiped out by a nuclear strike, the ordinary people in the other country will also get wiped out with a retaliatory strike.

We'll know within seconds of launch as all these sites are monitored 24/7.
I think us up on the West coast will be okay as nothing worth attacking. |

USA didn`t want nuclear missiles on their doorstep and a Nuclear War almost happened over the Cuba crisis. Now the scenario has turned completely and Russia now finds itself completely encircled by NATO missiles following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Any reasonable thinking person can fully understand their concern over this and we now live in even more dangerous times than it was in the 60s. The Doomsday Clock, with Midnight representing Doomsday, was set at 7 minutes to Midnight during the Cuban Missile crisis, today it is set at 2 minutes to Midnight, the lowest it has ever reached.

What launch sites? Are there any ‘launch’ in the USA or are all their nuclear weapons on submarines like the UK’s? Who manufactures these nuclear weapons? Do they even exist?? |

Wiki, "The United States tests its first thermonuclear device in November 1952 as part of Operation Ivy, before the Soviet Union follows suit in August. This is the clock's closest approach to midnight since its inception, later matched in 2018."

Kill for gain or shoot to maim
But we don't need a reason The Golden Goose is on the loose And never out of season Blackened pride still burns inside This shell of bloody treason Here's my gun for a barrel of fun For the love of living death The killer's breed or the Demon's seed, The glamour, the fortune, the pain, Go to war again, blood is freedom's stain Don't you pray for my soul anymore? 2 minutes to midnight, The hands that threaten doom. 2 minutes to midnight, To kill the unborn in the womb. The blind men shout "Let the creatures out We'll show the unbelievers." The napalm screams of human flames Of a prime time Belsen feast ... yeah! As the reasons for the carnage cut their meat and lick the gravy We oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies. The killer's breed or the Demon's seed, The glamour, the fortune, the pain, Go to war again, blood is freedom's stain Don't you pray for my soul anymore. 2 minutes to midnight, The hands that threaten doom. 2 minutes to midnight, To kill the unborn in the womb. The body bags and little rags of children torn in two And the jellied brains of those who remain to put the finger right on you As the madmen play on words and make us all dance to their song To the tune of starving millions to make a better kind of gun. |

When were the last nuclear weapons made?
How old are the oldest weapons? How do they know they still work? Something is not right, do nuclear weapons even exist? |

Mac, although true, I think this needs to be viewed in the context that since 2007 the Doomsday Clock additionally reflects climate change. Also, from wiki: The clock is not set and reset in real time as events occur; rather than respond to each and every crisis as it happens, the Science and Security Board meets twice annually to discuss global events in a deliberative manner. The closest nuclear war threat, the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, reached crisis, climax, and resolution before the clock could be set to reflect that possible doomsday. |

The irony of Iron Maiden lyrics is the former eastern block love their Maiden. They famously were one of the few bands to tour the soviet states before the wall came down.

You all know my views on a nuclear deterrent but I would say I can't blame the Russians for increasing their military capabilities. Yeltsin pleading with the West not to encroach on Russia but what did we do ? Let lots of the former Warsaw pact countries into NATO. We did have a chance for peace but it was a chance lost
