Can we not put decapitating neck collars on likely "peaceful" suspects, and in situations like this the police just have a bluetooth app to make them go off?

Another cowardice act from a twisted individual with an identity issue in an adopted country who could not separate the values of modern society, religion and living. The question is, why shoot him dead? Why not shoot him in the legs and arms to wound him? - he only had a knife.

To shoot him dead is an easy way to die for a coward like him, and could be perceived as a martyr by some; make him suffer; deprived him freedom. But allow him to live the life of a prisoner, and rot in prison with no parole, if necessary.

They saved the aussie taxpayer a pile of cash for his lifetime for the cost of a bullet, seems fair. Maybe should bill his family the cost of that?

In my view shooting to kill is the better option ;why should society have to pay for his incarceration. In this country we seem to adopt a similar response to terrorists caught in the act so to speak and it would resolve the out of control stabbings if the feral animals responsible were dealt with in the same manner.

I believe in some faiths immediate death is respected even if it means taking one's own life; to be captured and tortured is a sign of weakness and cowardice on the perpetrator's part eg not committing suicide, and frowned about; their families ought to be made to suffer too - the injured and dead are.

If he was in prison then unless he's kept in solitary he'd spent the next 40 years trying to convert others to his cause.

Don't know about aus but here of course the bleeding hearts would surely consider segregating him a breach of his "human rights". A far worse breach than being stabbed to death I'll wager.

Anyone with sound mind committing a similar cowardice act must forfeit their "Human Rights" rightly and legally accorded to other individuals; solitary confinement a must whilst incarcerated with no visitation rights for the 1st few years except hospitalisation; treats him like an animal until he shows sound human traits.

You'd never get anything that sensbile to happen. The BBC/Guardian/Labour/Libs/Shami Handwringi etc would never allow it.
Even proposing it publically would lead to the person saying it being ostracised as a "fascist".

These people need "hugged" you see, they are just misunderstood.

I've seen the clip, the policeman doing it does it at a very short distance as he's swinging a knife at his colleague. Good riddance.

I think the Western World are too soft - some prisons can be too accommodating; adopt prison deterrents from the likes of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Burma, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia (dare I say).

Impossible - this is to deny his culture.  Where's a human rights lawyer when one is needed.

What does one expect from a country parts of which still operates under laws (maybe customs) more appropriate to  the stone age? And some of the people from this country would give an arm and a leg just to be allowed to settle in Britain thus the conflict in culture, language and way of life as the consequences; they would also choose to live in an insular manner, and not integrate into their new country of abode.

The incredible thing about this incident is that the first police officer to engage with the nutter, had his gun drawn but decided not to use it. Instead he engaged in hand combat with a knife wielding nutter who was happily swinging at him. This is about as brave as you get.
