Anyone remember when the mobster was caught by the FBI? Killed in prison a day after a transfer - even at aged 89 I guess enemies don't go away!

Bulger was arrested outside an apartment in Santa Monica, California, on June 22, 2011, along with his long-time girlfriend Catherine Greig.

Bulger was 81 years old at the time.

A gruesome end for 11 time plus killer

A lot of criminals have been waiting a long time to get revenge on Bulger. One of the ways he kept himself out of jail was to inform on fellow criminals to rogue police officers.

Yep, most of the Boston Mafia leaders were    put in the frame by Bulger.

They send them to these far out federal prisons to keep them away from the east coast. They knew he was coming in and 3 guys wheeled him out of the sight of the CCTV.

Had a super long rap sheet.......

After being convicted of armed robbery and hijacking, he was sent to the infamous San Francisco prison-island Alcatraz.

He apparently liked Alcatraz so much, he visited and posed as a tourist - while he was on the run.

Tried to fund and arm the IRA, a fitting end in most people's eyes, though I don't condone violence, he'd have been better off seeing out his days in prison rather than a quick death.

I imagine the former Icelandic beauty queen who shopped him has a few enemies, assuming Bulger still has a few loyalists. Though at 89 maybe his footsoldiers are way too old or dead.

Amazing how he could have contact with people so freely in prison given who he was, maybe that's what was instructed, as his case was seen as an embarassement to the FBI who were chasing him for years and had to pay out so much money to his victims when he was meant to be under government watch.

Leaving aside Bulger's unsavoury nature, you do have to wonder what the American prison service was thinking about.

Nothing to do with Bulger being about to expose Special Council Robert Mueller for his corruption when he was acting US Attorney in the Boston area years ago.

Or maybe it was an attempted wheelchair robbery that went wrong.
