I used to make my own, I still have the kit, I've been considering giving it another go.

Can't beat drinking your own muck impatiently with the sediment still in it and getting hangovers that would floor an elephant.
Great times :)

You can bottles of decent beer from as little as £1 if you shop around.

Hobgoblin Gold is a decent bottle of hoppy beer for a quid- £1.25 tops.

I reckon Morrisons is the best supermarket.  A good range and always some offers on.  Usually 4 for £6 500ml bottles or 330 'craft'.

They do have a reduced section for drinks..have picked up some great bargains there.

They do also have bottles for around £1.  Banks's Amber Ale probably 90p.

Goes to show what margins some of the breweries are making......

I remember the night I bought my first five pound pints. What a fecked up world we live in!

Was out with an old uni mate in a pub I don't normally go to .... when you get no change from a tenner for the smallest possible round, it causes a bigger mental earthquake than having my bottom fracked.

No wonder people drink at home.

A thumbs up for Morrisons. I've always thought they were good on beer prices.

I heard a representative from the industry once state, that it's the amount of marketing spent on promoting a beer which determines how much it's put on sale for.
I should imagine an attractive label is also highly desirable.

Four Jackson Jaguars  (NFL) players arrested for an unpaid “bill” of 50k at “a” London club ...doesn’t sound like they was in weatherspoons .           That’s a pretty heavy bill .probably wasn’t weatherspoons ,but in Landon nothing would surprise .

anyone willingly ,on a regular basis paying a fiver for a pint has a drink problem, on principle alone it should be a no,no

Spoons today, meal and a pint of Shipyard APA for 6 quid. Shipyard is 4 large bottles for 6 quid at most supermarkets, as are Proper Job and Oakham Citra.

I haven't got a Morrisons near me, I think the closest one is in Peckham but I never go there. Tescos do 3 x 500 ml bottles of Aspall's cider for £5.25 and that's fair enough in my book. I've got one on the go right now watching the Palace game Happy
Report bigmo October 28, 2018 2:54 PM GMT
Have to agree. I would never pay a fiver for a pint. I'd rather go without.

I was in a spoons on Friday, under a tenner for 4 drinks, some pubs up The City are £7 and £8 a pint, shocking

doesn't seem that long ago when people thought 99p to a knicker was a watershed moment, and peope protest about the price of petrol, Laugh

bit like bookmaking in some cities its up to the landlord to get people to pay for the worst price

Last year in Newcastle I got a round in a pub near St.James' Park, 4 lagers, 3 ciders, a few bags of crisps and nuts and got change out of a score Shocked

Morrisons do a 500ml bottle that's always £1, I think it's Marstons IPA or something like that. It's very nice beer and definitely not inferior to many more expensive beers
Report TheBaron October 28, 2018 6:14 PM GMT
Prices in Morrisons like others vary by the week. Sainsburys are always more expensive.

Aldi and Lidl have good beers not available elsewhere for £1.25/£1.29.

gorgeous drink that is Slippers although it seems to have become weaker in strength ... and a slightly different taste ..at least in all the  pubs round here Sad

they have been taken over by a USA company of late so I don't expect the old quality to return if they have meddled with it

Spoons ales are around £2.00 - often less.  With CAMRA vouchers deduct 50p.

Last week I bought a coffee for £1.10 when I could have had a pint for £1.39!

Lavazza at least, and free refills.
Report 1st time poster October 29, 2018 10:35 AM GMT
forget what the bottle says regards strength, these people binge drinking 20 pints plus in a day etc, couldn't drink 8 pints ,bottles of Newcastle brown ale, double maxmum 30 years ago, FACT

Maybe they don't want the tramps in there all day, warming up. Grin

I would go and have breakfast there often if I didn't have to travel a bit Jack, big table, sunny window, lovely. I don't know if they lease or buy, but quite a lot of their properties are outstanding.

Saddo, the hobgoblin gold in cans is ok too but yes better from the bottle.
A little stronger and more trad is old crafty hen which is a proper beer.
