Whenever there is a march the people who organise it seem to inflate the figures by a few 100%. There was one in Scotland the other day where the activists organising it claimed 100,000+ attended, a ridiculus exageration, the photos showed a few 1000 max.

I see the pro EU sc*m on the BBC website are more than happy to quote the made up 500,000 figure without question..

BBC:
"Some 150 coachloads of people from across the UK - including as far away from London as Orkney"
So lets give benefit of doubt and say every coach is full size and pretty much full to the brim.
That's 7500 people.

Well that's hardly made a dent in the figure of 570,000 the organsers are quoting.

BBC won't question that though will they. If there were a mass pro brexit march they'd be talking about a few dangerous right wing extremists.

I see the pro EU sc*m on the BBC website are more than happy to quote the made up 500,000 figure without question.

ITV, Sky News, Reuters, Fox News, Sputnik, The Express... all are using hundreds of thousands/670k in online headlines and opening pars.

The BBC article says: "Scotland Yard said it was not able to estimate the size of the crowd." This suggests to me that attempts have been made to verify the figure. Is it the BBC's fault plod can't provide an independent figure?

Imo, you could actually argue the Reuters report is more "pro Eu". Take a look at the first two pars of the BBC article, then the Reuters article (a couple of comments from me in brackets):

Protesters seeking a referendum on the final Brexit deal have attended a rally which organisers say was the "biggest" demonstration of its kind.

Young voters led the People's Vote march to London's Parliament Square, which supporters say attracted more than 600,000 people.

---

Hundreds of thousands of supporters [leads with the numbers - arguably "bigging up" the scale of the event - yet, unlike BBC, doesn't make clear this figure comes from the organisers] of the European Union marched through London on Saturday in the biggest demonstration so far [biggest demonstration of what? Again, compare to the BBC who have been careful to attribute the "biggest of its kind" claims to the organisers] demand that the British government holds a public vote on the terms of Brexit.

The protesters waved the blue and gold flag of the EU and held up “Bollocks to Brexit” banners under sunny skies [totally superfluous, flowery three words here at best, but could also be perceived (by some) that it's somehow insinuating God approved of the march!] to call for another referendum on the eventual deal on how Britain will leave the world’s biggest trading bloc [why not just say EU here? Arguably bigging up the importance/power of the EU].

It doesn't matter that Russia interfered with the election, that many people voted on lies and that the good deal we were promised by the likes of Davis and Johnson is highly unlikely to materialise. Oh Christ! Not the Russia-stole-it line again.

Without the reliance of the EU's members on Russian energy imports, the economic mess Putin has created would have long ago collapsed. It's that mutual reliance which explains the EU's refusal to enact meaningful sanctions against Russia.

The EU is Russia's most effective and reliable partner in the world, and it's the reason why every Russian troll I've so far identified on this subject has been fiercely mocking of the UK for having voted to leave.

If you want an example, have a look at the poster 'Rollover' over on the Brexit thread on housepricecrash.co.uk You couldn't mangle the English language in a more hilariously Russian style if you tried. And the poster's contempt for UK Leave voters is matched only by his hatred for Ukrainians.

The research in fact found that a staggering 71 percent of Italians want immigration to be at the top of the agenda during next year’s EU elections, followed by the economy and youth unemployment.

Fueled by the anti-immigration Northern League Party, Italians have become increasingly frustrated with what they see as the EU’s failure to take its share of the burden in rescuing and hosting migrants arriving from the Mediterranean.

An Italexit Vote would be a tight call IMO..

They're all just derivations of the Latin 'perdo, perdere'. BRING BACK LATIN!

Mind you, a 'loser' in Latin is 'victus, victa, victum' (someone over whom someone else is victorious - a victim, if you will), so it's not that straightforward.

Report jed.davison October 21, 2018 10:25 AM BST
In Latin, the verbs perdere and vincere are discrete entities, and thus there is no crossover meanings of 'lose' as there are in English and the modern romance languages.

Thus as SFBTW explains, had Caesar been defeated, he would have said 'veni vidi, victus sum' and not veni, vidi, perdidi'
