Read something the other day about our normal supermarkets trying a new way of making life easy for shoplifters.

You walk around a shop "theoretically" scanning items into your phone, your account gets debited, and you just walk out carrying your stuff.

Can't possibly see that going wrong can you? Either people blagging stuff, or people thinking they'd paid and they hadn't and getting done for shoplifting when they'd made a genuine mistake.

Why attempt such a process so obviously open to things going badly wrong? Are automated tills really so bad?
