Becoming a bit of a nuisance....when you open the lid to put something in a few fly out and buzz around....perfect breeding site.
....and when you go down to the large outside bin..... swarms of the blighters volcano out as you lift the opening !

Put a jar or glass with some vinegar in it beside the bin, they'll fly into it and drown, or get fly paper and hang it near it.
Report Escapee October 10, 2018 9:21 PM BST
stop putting small fruit in the bin and the small fruit flies will starve, end of problem.
Report Get me a drink October 10, 2018 9:22 PM BST
Keep the bins perfectly clean. Warp all your waste really well as well
Report Get me a drink October 10, 2018 9:24 PM BST
Wrap all your waste and keep it in the freezer until the day the bin men come.

They require (I think it's 15 days but longer if it's cold, they are temperature dependent) a certain amount of time to go through a cycle so if the bin is emptied and cleaned often enough you won't have issues from it as a source itself. They don't just breed in fruit, all sorts of rotten stuff will do. Their maggots are very easy to spot if they've got that far, bright white.

Stab them all with a sharp pin.

Fly-spray bad for the planet and probably carcinogenic.

Can't kill a fly without a good reason as it is not good for your soul.

Just got to take waste bin out more often I guess.

I save all my dead flies as cheap filler for currant squares.
Trilby, I had one of those and you know how it is, I wet my nipple and gave it a whack. The level of pain was quite unexpected, how them flies get up-still smoking- is a wonder of science.

It always says on those rackets: This Is Not a Toy. Which is true but they are great fun none the less.  Ive certainly seen far less entertaining action on Eurosport.

I like a fruit fly infestation. I like to dance around in them in a fat suit pretending they fancy me and if none of them say no I like to rub myself against them. Salmond-ing as the fetishists call it :)

Pervert !

Got my zapper about three years ago but it was less than £12.00 so they've gone up in price since then.

Found out later that there is a bigger version, with a round handle, that takes "C cells" and at the time was only £2 or £3 more,
and I'm thinking it perhaps has even more zapping power!

Very satisfying, except that mine is obviously faulty, as my son discovered when he touched it, because it holds the charge, even when the button isn't
held down, until something touches it!

Does anyone know of an effective fly killer spray that gets rid of these little blighters, as the one I'm using noy doesn't seem to do anything. All that hot weather we had in the summer and there wasn't one around and now I seem to be plagued by them. TIA.

Give the tin a good shake, a short, sharp scoosh and watch the feckers drop.

"Raid" was an incredible bug spray....

One squirt and they fell out of the air and, the bigger they were, the faster it worked!

Our good friends in the EU put an end to that and banned it!

It used to be dry, so didn't mess up windows, or furnishings, but now it's a wishy washy wet, feeble, and ineffective product!

Turn on vacuum cleaner whilst holding its nozzle just above bin lid, give bin a little kick and open the lid of the bin - with vacuum nozzle still in place keep gently kicking the bottom of the bin for half a minute then put hoover away and get on with enjoying your life.
