I haven't got one, I've been many times to America over the last 30 years or so and had some good holidays in that time. Boston was my stand out favourite place though by miles but Superbowl weekend and Vegas aside I've got no great desire to go there again.

I've been to most and the vast majority are rather sterile and bland. If you like South Carolina then Google images of Savannah, Georgia, its neighbouring state. Great southern architecture, cobbled streets etc. and very different than most others.
However, this is of course the betting without New York which isn't solely about Manhattan, and NYC is the greatest city in the world outside of London. Naturally.

Step out of The glitzy cities of Houston and Dallas, and the wealthy suburbs, and you are into the remaining 80% sh!t hole!
Factor in the horrendous weather, being 100 degrees plus in Summer, and with debilitating humidity, and inbetween all of that, rain storms like you've never seen (at least in the UK)!

Never been to DC, but my daughter took a trip there, whilst at head office in Maryland.

Washington State is the answer!

Do you mean DC LFV ? Washington state on the West coast is relatively cheap to live in other than Seattle, now the District of Columbia is a completely different story. My family live in North Virginia, my father is retired and is one of the few who can afford to live there as a retired person. They reckon only 5% of pensioners can afford to stay in the area.
