I wandered what all the fuss was all a bout.  Sum new 'series' to make lots of inflated fan storeys plaiced in front of a gullible public and produce reams of newspaper reports salivating about who is watt. Their goes another production ho ho.

It was very good imo. Not as good as Line of Duty but still excellent. It appears some people go into things looking for flaws and to be negative rather than enjoying an excellent drama.

Looking for flaws???? Not me, guv.

I thought the first couple of episodes were brilliant, pacey and gripping... if a bit top heavy with female roles but please, last nights finale was a joke.

The police allowing the ridiculous situation of a bomber walking through Londons streets as if he was taking a walk to the shops to get some cigs!!! How far did he walk? A mile? 5 miles? Ludicrous!

How about the bomb "expert" who studied the bomb and trigger and scuttled away totally baffled on how to defuse the thing or seperate our hero from it. A pair of scissors, peeling back some insulation tape, removing thumb and re-sticking the tape did the job. What training course had that "expert" been on? He'd have learnt more had he watched a few back episodes of Blue Peter!

Where did the bomb come from? Not the Islamic girlie cos she'd been in custody since the first 10 minutes of episode 1. But the train bomb and last nights bomb were both made by the same person.

Good start but ridiculous ending.

"Don't fret lad. You can't take your thumb away even if you wanted to. It's stuck down with tape".

I haven’t been watching the Bodyguard as I have pretty much given up watching these UK written dramas.

The reason I don’t is generally summed up by the above poster – ie. They always start well and an intriguing storyline draws you in – only for it to drag on too long and have a ridiculous ending that leaves you saying WTF?

I generally stick to US series now.
Report The Leopard September 24, 2018 12:53 PM BST
Thought it was very good...well worth watching.

As for the taped thumb : it's a dead man's switch so if he is shot, his thumb relaxes, releases the switch casing the bomb to be detonated. The tape must have been on the thumb to stop him using that hand to try to defuse the device.
It was not keeping the trigger depressed.
He woke up to find the bomb attached to him...why did it not go off while he was unconscious ?
Maybe it was activated when he first pressed it ?

How did matey put the poster of Raquel Welch back up when he legged it down the tunnel in The Shawshank redemption?

How, practically, did all the gangsters get shot in the final scenes of 'Reservoir Dogs'?

You either suspend disbelief or you don't.

It was largely well-written (certainly compared with the irritatingly kooky dialogue of 'Killing Eve' say), brilliantly acted and whilst it did the requisite BBC minorities box-ticking exercise (wouldn't have got made if it hadn't) it was gripping, especially the taut finale.
Report invicta September 24, 2018 1:20 PM BST
I thought it was brilliant, accept it for what it is, a well written, superbly acted drama, nearly as good as Wolf Hall.
Report PorcupineorPineapple September 24, 2018 1:27 PM BST
I thought it was good.

Lots of questionable bits but you do have to suspend disbelief a bit. Tension was very good when he was wearing the vest.

As with most of these things,  thought it was wrapped up a bit too quickly and neatly.

Slippy - Nina Toussaint-White (from Bodyguard). She's either black or mixed race but I think she looks a bit like Letitia Dean.

She also seems to have very similar facial expressions and mannerisms. I thought maybe she adopted her as her role model as she was in EastEnders about 12 years ago.

I looked her up on Wiki and they attended the same drama school.

Remember the last episode of the last but one Line of Duty. Vicky McClure chasing the lanky get across town. Then pulling out a sniper rifle and taking him out from 300 yards away in a speeding car.

Don't think this ending was as bad as that but Mercurio has form for some silliness at the end.
Report Ramruma September 25, 2018 12:00 PM BST
Agree with @Scamp that the acting was mediocre -- with Keeley Hawes the only star. One of the Asian coppers was OK too.

Agree with posters too numerous to mention that the ending was ludicrous, especially the way Superman disabled the vest that had baffled the actual expert, leapt over a wall, ripped off the vest in a fraction of a second then disappeared down a wormhole in the space-time fabric.
Report pixie September 25, 2018 12:24 PM BST
I thought the acting was generally pretty poor too, apart from the gorgeous Keeley Hawes. Agree with most people, in that overall I enjoyed the series but it was spoilt a little bit with the silly bits and the cheesy ending when he goes off with his wife and kids leaving her poor boyfriend in the lurch. It was a bit confusing with the plot regarding the Home Office bigwigs and overall I much preferred 'The Night Manager', the acting and production was far superior. Fargo is a level above.

As with most British drama a disappointing end, we seem to have a knack of being let down with an implausible ending, could go into detail about everything wrong with the last episode but what's the point, except love to have seen the scene where he's holding a gun against the police chief & the police arrive & NOT shoot him, considering he had a dozen armed police trained on him when he had the bomb strapped to him, ridiculous but there you go, easier not to film that bit at all for that reason.
Report alun2005 September 25, 2018 3:45 PM BST
The faux outrage has already started re: this ludicrously overrated drama, complete with a tiresome and entirely predictable narrative.

Boo hoo hoo, the chief baddie was a woman who follows a Peace-Loving faith. Don't these writers know this is Negative Stereotyping for Allah's sake, and COMPLETELY UNTRUE?

Oh, and we also the actress didn't want to play the Jihadist in the beginning, because (LOLOL) "the role pushed Islamophobic ideas".

Guess what?  She did take this leading role in a highly pre-publicised BBC drama at peak time on a Sunday. There's a surprise.

lets imagine it taking off with public and it had low average ratings, that last episode would have got laughed at,ridiculed throughout the country

I enjoyed it. It was not great but I enjoyed it. The plot lines were interesting to a point but the twist's were lame and incredible.

I remember watching Spooks years ago and thinking it was great and then one date my mate watched it with me and told be it was a load of old pony and completely unrealistic which of course it was but I really enjoyed it until he said so just like Miami Vice. After he pointed out the bleedin' obvious it lost a little of it's sparkle for me. Perhaps I just fancied that Siobahn bird!

I thought there was a clip of Keeley suited up in a sucuide vest with her 'bodyguard' trying to disarm it. Mirroring the opening scenes in Ep1.

Was this an alternative ending?
Report Hank Hill November 14, 2018 1:52 PM GMT
Finished watching this last night and have to say I was underwhelmed. There were some decent plot ideas but the acting was very average imo. 8.3 on imdb?! It's almost as if the BBC thought it was better to get its pc quota ahead of programme quality. The only surprise for me was that the PM wasn't a tranny Laugh I'll stick with stuff like fauda - very good Israeli show if you're interested.
