A few days ago I was looking up tinnitus to see if there is anything I can do to improve my own (bearable but still rather not have it).

Today, I open up my email and find one directly addressing tinnitus issues, the first I've ever received on this subject!

Then again, within the past few days, I've also been looking at vacuum cleaners and again I receive an email today regarding Dyson cleaners.

Both are obvious spam but how do they know my email address from my browsing?

This new 'accept all' cookies and conditions banner you get on every site must be a license to print. I'm sure this is not what was intended when the rules were tightened.

I can vaguely understand them knowing my browsing history but access to my email seems a little too intrusive; what else can they access on my PC?

Who are "they", how can we possibly offer an opinion about how someone is emailing you without saying who is emailing you?

Is it amazon? Did you look at stuff on their site?

I'm not sure I'd be searching tinnitus on Amazon, but the Dyson perhaps yes. I get loads of spoof Amazon emails these days

I've had those on my Hotmail account Dan but my main account (which they are now using) is only given out to major companies (utilities etc) and personal friends. I starting to believe they can access more than they are letting on!

Well if you visit amazon and you've a cookie left in your browser saying who you are they can see what you looked at and will send targetted advertising at you. This is not difficult, they do this all the time! If it's not amazon emailing you've still not said who it is so a pretty stupid thread.

It's not a yahoo account is it, they are absolutely useless for security, you might as well post your password on the internet.

No it isn't, as the Amazon spam isn't Amazon either. I expect spam to leak through occasionally but just browsing a particular product and leaving no details at all I find it quite hard to believe they find out my email address. The only explanation I can think of is that those that do leave cookies are passing on my browsing history AND email address. Failing that they have another access to my PC where they can somehow obtain it.

Some anti malware software (e.g. malware bytes I think) when it does a scan looks at your cookies and tells you if you have tracking cookies. Rather than just clear them get a good free one that does that and see what it says.

Or you might just have malware anyway like a plugin watching your surfing.

is it gmail?  You might have been googling while logged on and also given permission to some app or other to contact you "with relevant info".

One of the main unintended consequences of the recent data changes is that you are now discouraged to delete cookies as, when you do, you get loads of popups etc telling you that you have to agree to this and that and the next thing before you can find what you want.

There is of course no cure for tinnitus,a scientist who discovered one would probably
be awarded a Nobel  Prize.Best option is a coping strategy.
