Today i went to work to do a couple of things but to finish early so i could go to Newbury races as i was owed loads of hours off to meet up with my parents, 3 uncles and my auntie.

Did one of the tasks when i was called to go on a fault (windy), then another and then another which took me right near to my mothers house just before 11am, so i popped in as we were going racing later and after that i was heading home to go racing. She said do you fancy anything, i said the bottom one in 1525, i told her Kingman her has produced the best 2yo so far this season and has produced some really smart juveniles, also this horse was entered upto the hilt and the trainer is very good and has a top jockey. I did not know the price of this horse at the time.

Then i get more faults to deal with and end up in Shalbourne all afternoon next to the plough inn. I placed a bet on my horse in 1525 @50/1 ew, surprised at the odds as it looked a very weak race formwise.

Just as i was finishing my work in Shalbourne in a middle of a field i got text from mother 'your horse won thanks, your uncles said thanks too'

Suddenly i felt i wish i was at the races.....

I am the favourite son for a week or 2 Cool

Anyone else tipped their mother a 50/1 winner ?

I think the best i had done before was 25/1.

Nice story IS.
Once got a tip from a friend who was a bookie and passed it on to my family.
Thin Red Line @ 33/1. Great result but the downside was getting pestered in the following weeks for more.

Back in the 80's my old man had a friend who in turn was friends with a jockey. One day this jockey was riding a horse called 'Medes' on soft ground and he told my dad's friend that he was certain that it would romp home on 'good'

A few weeks later Medes got his shot on good going and the jockey informed us that the time was right, however; the horse was pulled before the off and we never got to find out.

A while later, on a Bank Holiday Monday, I was flicking through the papers and noticed Medes was due to race that day. I phoned Dad, who in turn phoned his friend and we were then advised that it was good to go. At the time I didn't have a bank account and being a bank holiday it was nigh on impossible to find a way of getting my money so I searched the house and came up with £40 (if I had found more it would have been used). £20 ew at 50/1 and true to his word, on good going, it romped home! A very happy conclusion.

Suffice to say that the next time it ran,  also on good going, it got pipped at the post with me betting on the win only

Nice win IS... well done mate!

Great story I.S. well done you Happy My Mum did have a 50/ winner at Cheltenham one year, Pitman's Monsignor in the bumper. We were in a busy pub in Cobham, Surrey which always had a bookmaker in with a clerk and a runner to take the bets tableside. Anyway, he must have thought he got a skinner when Monsignor won but when he got around to settle Mum's slip, a fiver each way, he let fly with a couple of expletives!

P.S. I.S. Who do you fancy today Sir? Wink
